Another reminder to please keep your glasses out of the car! ☀️👓

It’s not just you that feels the heat, your glasses do too! When temperatures rise, the inside of your car can become extremely hot and could cause:

👓 Frames can warp or lose their shape
☀️ Lens coatings can crack, peel or deteriorate
🔍 Some lenses can become distorted

Your glasses do an important job looking after your eyes, so make sure you look after them too.

Please take them with you when you leave the car and store them somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight🌞

Keep your eyes safe during the solar eclipse! Tomorrow we’ll be treated to a spectacular partial solar eclipse, with around 90% of the sun covered at its peak in many parts of the UK. But please don’t let the excitement put your eyesight at risk. 👀

Never look directly at the sun during the eclipse, even when most of it is covered. The remaining sunlight can still cause serious, potentially permanent damage to your eyes.

If you want to watch it safely:
Use proper solar eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2 standard), ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not suitable.
Never look through binoculars or a telescope unless they have the correct solar safety filter fitted.
Pinhole projection is another safe way to view the eclipse without looking directly at the sun.

For full official guidance on how to view the eclipse safely, visit the Royal Observatory Greenwich’s guide here. How to see the 12 August 2026 partial solar eclipse safely https://www.rmg.co.uk/stories/space-astronomy/how-see-12-august-2026-partial-solar-eclipse?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Please look after your eyes and enjoy this spectacular event safely! 👓🌑

Hot weather can leave your eyes feeling dry and uncomfortable. Heat, sunshine, air conditioning and breezy conditions can all increase tear evaporation, leaving your eyes feeling dry, gritty or irritated.

The College of Optometrists advises that lubricating eye drops can help relieve dry eye symptoms and recommends wearing sunglasses outdoors to help protect your eyes from the sun and wind.

A few simple tips:
💧 Use lubricating eye drops if your eyes feel dry
😎 Wear good quality UV-protective sunglasses
💦 Keep hydrated
👁️ Remember to blink regularly, especially when using phones, tablets or computers.

If your symptoms persist or become uncomfortable, don't just put up with them. Book an appointment with us so we can assess your eyes and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

Enjoy the sunshine and take care of your eyes! ☀️😎

Your eyes can change gradually without you even noticing.

That's why regular eye examinations are so important. They're not just about checking if you need new glasses, they also allow us to assess the overall health of your eyes and detect many conditions in their early stages, often before symptoms appear.

At Melina Joy Opticians, every eye examination includes OCT and Optomap scans, giving us a detailed view of your eye health and helping to spot changes as early as possible.

Looking after your vision starts with regular eye care. Contact us to book your next eye examination 01435 868181.

Are you planning a camping trip or heading off to a music festival this summer? If you wear contact lenses, don't let an eye infection ruin your weekend.

A few simple precautions can make all the difference.
✅Always wash and dry your hands before handling your lenses.
✅Never rinse or store your lenses in tap water, bottled water or any other non-sterile water.
✅Daily disposable lenses are often the easiest and most hygienic choice when you're away from home.
✅Never sleep in your lenses unless they've been specifically prescribed for overnight wear.
✅Pack some contact lens friendly lubricating eye drops to help keep your eyes comfortable, especially if you're spending long days outdoors in the sun, wind or dust.
✅Don't forget your sunglasses too, they help protect your eyes from harmful UV rays.

If your eyes become red, painful, sensitive to light or your vision becomes blurred, remove your lenses straight away and seek professional advice.

A little preparation before you pack can help keep your eyes healthy, comfortable and infection free, leaving you free to enjoy the music, campfire and good company 😎

Have you recently been impressed by a great service?

One of the simplest ways to say thank you is by leaving a review.

It only takes a few minutes, but your kind words can help a small business build trust, reach new customers and continue to grow.

If a small business has made your day, why not make theirs? 💙
