💜 Haven Bereavement Support Group 💜

At Hebden Bridge Funeral Service, we know that losing someone close to you can be incredibly difficult, and sometimes it helps to talk to people who understand what you’re going through.

As part of HavenCare, we’re pleased to share details of the Haven Bereavement Support Group, which offers a friendly, relaxed and supportive space for anyone who has lost a loved one.

The group currently meets in Accrington, but we hope to expand into other areas in the future so that more people can access support closer to home.

There’s no formal course, no pressure to talk and no commitment to attend every session. You can share your experiences, listen to others, have a chat, or simply come along and spend time with people who understand. Everyone deals with grief differently, and there’s no right or wrong way to feel.

Having seen how much these groups can help people, we know that sometimes just knowing you’re not alone can make a real difference. Friendships often grow along the way, too, which is lovely to see.

On behalf of the family we wish to announce ~

HALSTEAD, Malcolm

On 23rd August 2026, at his home at Clement Court, Malcolm, aged 82 years, formerly of Sowerby Bridge and Mytholm Meadows, Hebden Bridge, sadly passed away.

Beloved eldest son of the late Harry and Laura Halstead. Special brother of Jennifer and John, brother-in-law of Tony and Sarah, uncle of Trudy, Nigel, Jamie and Kate.

Much loved by all his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Malcolm's life will be held at Park Wood Crematorium on Tuesday 15th September at 10:30am.

The family kindly ask that a splash of colour be worn. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Overgate Hospice, c/o the funeral directors.

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Overgate Hospice after being kindly invited to tour their beautiful new building as one of their Business Members.

Walking around the new 16 bed inpatient unit, I was struck by just how peaceful it feels. Every part of the design has been carefully considered to create a calm, comforting environment, and it reminded me how much our surroundings can influence our experiences, especially during some of life's hardest times.

In my work at Hebden Bridge Funeral Service, I meet families at one of the most difficult points in their lives. Seeing a space that has been created to help patients and their loved ones feel more comfortable, supported and at peace was genuinely moving. Comfort isn't just about the care people receive – it's also about the environment around them, and Overgate has created something truly special.

Thank you to everyone at Overgate Hospice for such a warm welcome. It was a privilege to see first-hand the thought, compassion and dedication that has gone into creating this wonderful space for our community.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Greenwood on 20th May 2026, aged 84.

A celebration of James's life will be held on Friday 12th June at 2:15 p.m. at Parkwood Crematorium, followed by a wake at The Dusty Miller in Mytholmroyd.

James's family wish to invite anyone who would like to pay their respects and join them in celebrating his life.

We were honoured to support the Stead family yesterday, as they said goodbye to their beloved dad, Lawrence Stead.

In Lawrence’s memory, his son Chris is taking on a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society — a meaningful tribute to his dad while helping support families affected by Alzheimer’s.

Cyril Robinson passed away peacefully on 26th March 2026, aged 85 years.

Much loved husband of Christine, and dearly missed by all his family and friends.

The funeral service will take place at St Thomas’ Church, Heptonstall, on Friday 17th April 2026 at 2:00pm,
followed by burial at Slack Top Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Cyril are welcomed for the RSPCA, with a collection box available at the service.
