I truly believe in the power of holistic therapies, especially reflexology. Over the years, I’ve seen how it can ease stress, encourage deep relaxation, restore balance and support the body’s natural ability to heal. My goal is always to provide professional, individualised treatments that nurture both body and mind — helping you feel your best in a caring, grounded and down-to-earth way. A Space Just for You

I continue to grow and develop my practice through ongoing training. I’ve recently begun a Diploma in Reflexology for Cancer Support, deepening my ability to support those undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment and their families. This training is helping me provide safe, compassionate and tailored care — including gentle techniques like encouraging “shy” veins to make blood tests or cannulation a little easier and less stressful. I’m also certified in palliative reflexology, offering calming, adapted treatments that improve quality of life for individuals living with serious or chronic illnesses and their families. Sciatica is one of those pains that can completely take over.

That sharp, shooting, nervy pain down the leg. The ache in the lower back or hip. The feeling that you can’t quite sit, stand or move comfortably.

While sciatica is often linked to irritation or pressure around the nerves in the lower back, the whole body can respond to that discomfort. Muscles tighten. The nervous system becomes more alert. You may start holding yourself differently without even realising it.

Reflexology doesn’t “fix” the underlying cause of sciatica, but it can offer gentle support by helping the body soften, settle and move out of that tense, guarded state.

For some people, that means feeling calmer, sleeping better, easing overall tension and giving the nervous system a little breathing space while the body works through it.

As always, if sciatic pain is severe, worsening, lasting longer than a few weeks, or comes with numbness, weakness, bladder or bowel changes, please seek medical advice.

Reflexology can be a beautiful support, but it sits alongside proper care, not instead of it. 👣

Why Do People Feel So Different After Reflexology?

One person leaves feeling deeply relaxed and ready for a nap, while another feels refreshed, energised, or even unexpectedly emotional. So why the different reactions?

Reflexology works with the whole person, not just the feet. By encouraging relaxation and supporting the body’s natural balancing processes, each person’s response reflects their individual physical, emotional, and mental state.

After a treatment, you may experience:
• A deep sense of calm and relaxation
• Feeling sleepy as your body prioritises rest and recovery
• Increased energy and mental clarity
• An emotional release as stress and tension begin to ease
• A greater awareness of your body and its needs

There is no “correct” way to feel after reflexology. Every response is individual, and even the same person may experience something different from one session to the next.

Reflexologists encourage clients to stay hydrated, take things gently if possible, and notice how they feel over the following 24–48 hours.

Understanding these individual responses helps us appreciate reflexology as a holistic therapy that supports each person according to their own needs.

Have you ever noticed yourself taking a long, deep breath during reflexology, even though you weren’t consciously trying to?

At the beginning of a session, your breathing may still be quite quick or shallow. As you become comfortable, feel less distracted and realise that nothing is expected of you for the next while, it may begin to soften naturally.

When we are busy, worried or rushing, the body can remain in a more alert state. As we begin to relax, the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system becomes more active. This is the part associated with rest, recovery and settling after stress.

Reflexology gives you a period of stillness, supportive touch and focused attention, away from phones, jobs and everyday demands. For some people, that environment makes it easier to unwind, and a change in breathing may simply be one of the ways that relaxation shows itself. Some studies have recorded changes in heart-rate variability following foot reflexology or foot massage, suggesting possible short-term changes in autonomic activity.

As reflexologists, we often notice the moment a client releases a long breath or lets out a little sigh. We don’t see it as something they need to make happen. It is simply a lovely sign that they may be feeling more comfortable and allowing themselves to settle.

Not everyone’s breathing changes, and there is no “correct” way to respond to a treatment. Some people become very still, some chat for a while, and others take most of the session to properly relax. All of that is completely normal.

You don’t need to concentrate on your breathing or try to switch off. Just get comfortable and let your body find its own pace. 💜

Living with a chronic condition can be physically and emotionally exhausting. While reflexology is 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, many people find it a valuable complementary therapy that supports their overall wellbeing.

At Soothing Soles Holistic Therapies, reflexology offers a calm, nurturing space where you can take time for yourself. Clients often report benefits such as:

✨ Deep relaxation
✨ Reduced stress and tension
✨ Improved sense of wellbeing
✨ Better quality sleep
✨ Time to reconnect with body and mind

When you're managing a long-term health condition, caring for your wellbeing matters just as much as treating the condition itself. Small moments of relaxation and self-care can make a meaningful difference to how you feel day to day.

If you're living with a chronic illness and would like to explore how reflexology may support your wellbeing alongside your healthcare plan, I'd be happy to chat about whether it's right for you.

💚 Be kind to yourself. Your health journey deserves compassion, support, and moments of peace.

I think we all know that feeling of being tired in a way sleep doesn’t quite fix.

When you’ve been holding everything together, answering the messages, doing the jobs, keeping the plates spinning, and telling everyone you’re grand.

Sometimes what you need isn’t another thing to do.

It’s a bit of quiet.

A room where nobody needs anything from you.
A pause you don’t have to earn.
A chance for your body to feel safe enough to soften.

That’s one of the loveliest things about reflexology.

It gives you space to stop carrying everything so tightly, even just for a little while.

And sometimes, that little while is exactly what you needed.
