Great graphic on the ear and how hearing works 👂
Human Ear
The human ear is the sensory organ responsible for hearing and maintaining balance. It is divided into three main parts: the outer ear, middle ear, and inner ear.
The outer ear collects sound waves and directs them through the ear canal to the eardrum (tympanic membrane). In the middle ear, tiny bones called the ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes) amplify these vibrations.
The vibrations then reach the inner ear, where the cochlea converts sound vibrations into electrical signals. These signals travel through the auditory nerve to the brain, where they are interpreted as sound.
The inner ear also contains the vestibular system, which helps maintain balance and body orientation.
