What a joyful Woodland Wellbeing session we shared this week in Helensburgh with a wonderful group of Afghan refugee women.
Despite the overcast skies, the woodland was filled with smiles, laughter and connection. We were truly humbled by the generosity of the women, who disappeared briefly only to return carrying delicious homemade treats and flasks of tea to share with everyone.
We also learned so much from them. As we gathered around the fire, the women demonstrated their fire-lighting skills with confidence and ease. It was a powerful reminder that something we often view as a bushcraft activity or a special outdoor experience is, for many people around the world, an everyday life skill and necessity.
The conversations flowed beautifully, despite differences in language and culture. Nature has a wonderful way of bringing people together, creating space for friendship, understanding and belonging.
By the end of the session, there were already requests for the next woodland "party" – something we will be delighted to arrange!
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a warm, welcoming and uplifting day in the woods. 💚🌿
