Is your child struggling with focus, big emotions, or challenging behaviors? You might be looking strictly at brain function, but their gut plays a massive role, too. 🧠

The gut and brain are in constant communication via the gut-brain axis. In fact, research shows that children with ADHD have approximately a 60% higher chance of experiencing gut symptoms compared to those without ADHD!

While gut issues don't cause ADHD, a compromised gut microbiome can influence:

⭐️ Brain development & neurotransmitter production
⭐️ Mood, attention, & emotional regulation
⭐️ Inflammation & sleep quality

Nurturing your child’s gut health is a powerful, foundational way to support their overall wellbeing. 🌿✨

Ready to support your child’s gut and brain health? 🤍

You don’t have to navigate this alone. Through personalised 1:1 support, we can look at your child's unique needs and build a simple, realistic nutrition plan for your family.

This week all my kids want to eat are lollies! And I don’t blame them!

Rather than stocking up on shop bought ones we make these on repeat, they are easy to make and a healthy alternative to shop bought.

The brilliant thing about these ice lollies is that they do so much more than just keep little ones cool. They’re a simple way to boost hydration, increase fibre intake, add antioxidants and even sneak in an extra portion of vegetables.

⭐️ These are some of my favourite but really any mix of frozen fruit will work. Just blitz up frozen fruit or left over smoothie (and some veg if you can) with water or milk and freeze in moulds for 4-5 hours in the freezer.
⭐️ Or let children help choose their own flavour combinations to encourage them to try new foods.

🍓 Berry & Banana Lollies
Made with berries, banana, dairy or non-dairy milk, and chia seeds for a delicious combination of hydration, fibre and antioxidants.

🥭 Tropical Mango Lollies
Made with mango, frozen cauliflower, lime and coconut water for a refreshing tropical flavour. The cauliflower is colourless and tasteless so a great way to add an extra portion of vegetables, while the coconut water provides natural electrolytes to support hydration.

As a children’s nutritionist, I love simple recipes that help children stay hydrated while adding extra nutrients to their day.

If you have an favourite lollie recipes in your home I would love to hear them in the comments 🍓🥭☀️

Did you know that low iron can make ADHD symptoms worse in children?

That’s because iron is important for neurotransmitter production as well as many other functions in the body.
So low iron levels can make focus and attention as well as mood and energy challenges worse.

Signs of low iron can include:✨ Fatigue✨ Poor focus✨ Pale skin✨ Mood changes✨ Restless sleep

Iron-rich foods like lean red meat, beans, lentils, eggs and leafy greens can help, as well as chicken liver pate. Pairing these foods with a source of vitamin C like oranges, peppers or tomatoes can help increase absorption of iron.

If you’re worried about your child’s iron levels I would always recommend speaking to your GP about getting a test before you supplement.

If you want to find out more about how diet can affect your child’s ADHD symptoms then pop me message or comment below if you have any questions.

✨ School dinners are getting a healthy makeover 🍽️
New UK school food guidance is shifting menus towards more healthy, balanced and nourishing foods and away from ultra-processed, sugary options that so many parents are concerned about.

The aim is to support children’s growth, focus, mood, and long-term health 💚
As a children’s nutritionist and mum, I think this is a positive step towards helping our children:
🥦 Build balanced eating habits
⚡ Maintain steady energy throughout the day
🧠 Support learning and concentration

There is a 9 week consultation period so these changes are not confirmed just yet.

I’d love to hear your thoughts?
Are you really happy to see these changes and feel more confident in choosing school dinners for your kids, or are you concerned about how these changes will be accepted by your kids and especially if you have a picky eater?

What Parents Should Know

Heavy metals like lead and mercury are unfortunately in our environment, and although levels are generally low, some children may be more sensitive to these toxins. Exposure can come from older homes, certain foods, soil, or water.

I never recommend detoxing children or using extreme protocols, that can be unsafe. But supporting the body gently through nutrition and lifestyle are both safe and beneficial.

For children with ongoing symptoms, targeted testing can help determine whether exposure is contributing to behaviour, sleep, or immune challenges.

If you are concerned your child may be affected by heavy metals we can run a simple non-invasive and affordable hair mineral test.

The good news is once we know if your child has high metal levels we can work together to gently remove them.

When Christmas rolls around, so much of the festive magic is tied to sweet treats—mince pies, gingerbread, candy canes and all the Christmas chocolates! 🎄🍫
But too many sugary snacks can lead to sugar overload… which often means hyperactivity, tantrums, tummy aches and constant demands for more. Not exactly the peaceful Christmas parents hope for!
Here are my top tips to help you manage treats without missing out on the fun:

⭐ Start with a hearty meal – A full tummy means fewer sugar binges later on.⭐ Add protein + healthy fats – Pairing treats with these helps steady blood sugar and reduce those sugar-fuelled ups and downs.⭐ Try non-food gifts – Ask family to swap some sweets for fun activities, toys or festive surprises.⭐ Make healthier sweet treats – There are loads of great options for healthy treats - black bean brownies and healthy gingerbread men go down great with my kids!

Have any favourite healthy Christmas recipes or tips? Share them in the comments, I’d love to hear them! ✨
