Some signs of lipoedema can be easy to overlook, particularly when feelings like heaviness, tenderness or frequent bruising have simply become part of everyday life.

Lipoedema can look and feel different for each person. Some people may notice tenderness or discomfort, a feeling of heaviness, easy bruising, symmetrical changes in both legs, nodular-feeling tissue, or that their feet appear relatively unaffected.

These signs don’t necessarily mean you have lipoedema, but they may be worth exploring further. If you’ve noticed changes in your body or symptoms that don’t feel quite right, you deserve to have those concerns heard and appropriately assessed.

Sometimes, simply having more information can help make sense of what you’ve been experiencing. Awareness can be a gentle first step towards finding answers and understanding what support may be right for you.

📻 Lipoedema featured on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour

Yesterday, Woman’s Hour featured an important discussion on lipoedema. Presenter Kylie Pentelow spoke with Lesley Bambridge and Emily Blake about the challenges they have faced living with the condition, including years of delayed diagnosis and the struggle to have lipoedema recognised by healthcare professionals.

A huge thank you to Kylie Pentelow, the Woman’s Hour production and research team, Lesley Bambridge, Emily Blake, and Dr Guido Köhler, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Advisor to Lipoedema UK, for helping bring this important conversation to a national audience.

The programme highlights why Lipoedema UK continues to campaign for faster diagnosis, improved awareness among healthcare professionals and better access to effective treatment.

Join Lipoedema UK for our monthly Members’ Open Clinic on 23rd of July at 6.30 pm.

These monthly Nurse and Clinical Specialist sessions provide a welcoming, supportive and confidential environment where you can ask questions, discuss concerns, and receive evidence-based guidance from our experienced clinical team. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, navigating treatment options, or looking for advice on managing day-to-day life with lipoedema, no question is too small.

Our Open Clinics are also a great opportunity to connect with the Lipoedema UK community and gain support from others who understand the challenges of living with the condition.
