Every 10 seconds, Samaritans respond to a call for help from someone who is finding life difficult. Their volunteers provide a safe, confidential space for anyone who needs someone to listen.

🛡️ Free NHS MenB vaccinations for eligible 17–25 year olds

Meningococcal B (MenB) disease is a rare but serious bacterial infection that can cause meningitis, blood poisoning (septicaemia), and sepsis. It can become life-threatening very quickly, but vaccination offers effective protection. You may be eligible for a FREE NHS MenB vaccine if you:
✅ Were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008, or
✅ Were born on or after 21 July 2001 and are starting university for the first time this autumn, or
✅ Were born on or after 21 July 2001 and are starting a residential further education college for the first time in autumn 2026.

💉 The vaccine is given in 2 doses, at least 4 weeks apart.

You can also get a walk-in MenB vaccination at participating pharmacies if you're eligible. You don't need to be registered with a GP to use the pharmacy walk-in service.

☀️ Stay Safe in the Sun ☀️

Enjoying the sunshine? Taking a few simple steps can help protect you and your family from the harmful effects of UV rays.

🧴 Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply every two hours, or more often if you're swimming or sweating.
🕶️ Wear sunglasses with UV protection and a wide-brimmed hat.
👕 Cover up with lightweight clothing where possible.
🌳 Seek shade, especially between 11am and 3pm, when the sun's rays are strongest.
💧 Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
👶 Take extra care to protect babies, young children, older adults and anyone who may be more vulnerable in hot weather.

Remember, sunburn increases your risk of developing skin cancer, so protecting your skin is important—even on cloudy days.

Today, on International Paramedics Day, we would like to recognise and thank all paramedics working across every area of healthcare.

Whether responding to emergencies, working in ambulance services, supporting urgent and emergency care, serving in the military, working in education and research, or providing expert care in GP practices and other community settings, paramedics make an incredible difference every single day. Their clinical expertise, compassion, professionalism and commitment to patient care are truly invaluable.

At Wargrave House Doctors Surgery, we are proud to have five highly skilled paramedics as part of our clinical team. They play a crucial role in delivering our urgent care clinics, assessing and treating patients with acute illnesses, supporting our multidisciplinary team, carrying out home visits, and contributing to many other aspects of primary care. Their knowledge, dedication and patient-centred approach help us provide safe, timely and high-quality care for our community.

To our own paramedics, and to every paramedic working across the NHS and beyond—thank you for everything you do. Your compassion, resilience and commitment do not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for the care you provide every day.

An Amber Heat-Health Alert has been issued across the Midlands. The alerts are in place until Sunday 12 July.

Please take care during the hot weather:
💧 Drink plenty of water.
🧴 Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day where possible.
🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds.
👵 Check in on older relatives, neighbours, and anyone who may be more vulnerable.
🚗 Never leave children, older adults, or pets in parked vehicles.
