St Michael's Hospice - Hereford

St Michael's Hospice - Hereford St Michael's Hospice is an independent charity that exists to help, support and care for patients
(1)

As a charity, we need to raise over ยฃ5.8 million a year to ensure we can continue to provide our care and support for free. 74% of this funding comes from our local community through donations and fundraising events. Our multi-disciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, complementary therapists, social workers, chaplains and counsellors. Specialist Hospic

e staff work together and often in partnership with the NHS to relieve patientsโ€™ symptoms, control their pain and help them to live well until the end of life. We provide Inpatient services, hospice daycare and support for patients in a range of settings, including their homes. We are also there to ensure loved ones have access to the appropriate care and support they need to cope with the complex feelings and lifestyle changes caused by a terminal illness. Supporting your Hospice
St Michaelโ€™s Hospice provides all its care free of charge to patients, their families and carers. This care is made possible by supporters taking part in fundraising events, playing our lottery, shopping at our retail outlets, making charitable donations and leaving gifts in their wills.

โ€œIโ€™ve held hands for hours. Iโ€™ve helped people say goodbye. And Iโ€™ve driven through every kind of weather to be there. But I can only do that because someone like you made sure I had a car to get there.โ€
โ€” Niamh, Senior Palliative Care Support Worker ๐Ÿ’™

Behind every journey our Hospice at Home team makes is a person and a family who need care, comfort and support.

The car may get our nurses there, but your kindness helps make the care possible.
Tonight is your final chance to support our Refuel the journey, power the care appeal.

Until 10pm tonight, every donation will be doubled, helping our team continue reaching local families across Herefordshire.

Every mile, every visit, every moment of care matters.

If youโ€™ve been thinking about donating, now is the time.

If you want to double your impact, make sure you donate before then. ๐Ÿค—

When Eileen, who has been staying with us, and husband Richard marked their wedding anniversary, our colleagues wanted to make the day extra special.

So the kitchen team created a picnic to accompany the couple on a trip to a beautiful sunflower field. On their return, staff had decorated Eileenโ€™s room with bunting, and even swapped her bed for a โ€˜cuddle bedโ€™ - one specially designed to expand to a double bed, allowing loved ones to lie beside each other.

โ€œSt Michaelโ€™s has really been our saviour for the last six weeks,โ€ said Eileen. โ€œTheyโ€™ve been everything.

โ€œI really believe itโ€™s a happy place to be. Before coming here, we had an idea what a Hospice might be like - perhaps a dark, unhappy place - and Iโ€™m glad to say we couldnโ€™t have been further from the truth.โ€

A game of cricket. A lasting legacy. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ

For over a decade, brothers Adam and Robert Matravers have been bringing friends together for an annual cricket match in memory of their parents, Richard and Mim, who were both cared for at St Michael's Hospice.

Since 2012, this incredible event has raised thousands of pounds to help ensure more local families receive the same compassionate care when they need it most.

This year's match takes place on Sunday 16th August at Bartestree Cricket Club, with play starting at 1pm, and entry is completely free.

Whether you're a cricket fan or simply looking for a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon, we'd love to see you there cheering the teams on while supporting a cause that means so much to so many. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ

๐Ÿ’ฌ Will you be coming along? Or have you attended this fantastic match before? Share your favourite memories in the comments and help us wish both teams the very best of luck!

Do you have a terminal illness, or are you looking after someone who does? ๐Ÿค”

We know how frightening and lonely it can be, and how overwhelming it is trying to navigate where to turn to for support. ๐Ÿฅบ

Help is here.

This is exactly why we've set up relaxed drop-in Community Wellbeing Cafe in Peterchurch. Pop along and have a cuppa as you chat with our friendly clinicians about what help is available. You can also meet others living with similar experiences. ๐Ÿฅฐ

Our forget-me-nots have travelled a little further than we expectedโ€ฆ all the way to Hawaii! ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ’™

We hope everyone who secured one of our beautiful ceramic forget-me-nots is enjoying finding the perfect place for it.

One of our wonderful supporters, David Croll, bought two forget-me-nots in memory of his mum and dad, Shirley and Jim. Shirley received care from St Michael's Hospice, and although David now lives in Japan, this lovely photo was taken while he was visiting Hawaii!

It's heartwarming to know that these special tributes have found homes not only across Herefordshire, but all around the world.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you found the perfect spot for your forget-me-not? We'd absolutely love to see it! Share a photo in the comments and tell us who your forget-me-not is remembering. ๐Ÿ’™

101 years youngโ€ฆ and still part of the St Michael's family! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ’™

We recently celebrated a very special birthday as one of our longest-serving volunteers, Randy Langford, turned an incredible 101 years old! ๐Ÿฅณ

Over the years, Randy has dedicated countless hours to supporting St Michael's Hospice, collecting donation tins from schools, workplaces and community venues across Herefordshire. Thanks to his remarkable commitment, he helped raise around ยฃ400,000 to support local hospice care.

Although Randy has now retired from his volunteer role, he's still a familiar face at St Michael's, regularly joining one of our Day Services groups.

To celebrate this amazing milestone, staff, volunteers and patients came together for cake, laughter and even a game of pass the parcel! ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ

Happy 101st Birthday, Randy, and thank you for everything you've done for St Michael's. You're an inspiration to us all. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’ฌ Please join us in wishing Randy a very happy birthday! If you've ever met Randy or remember seeing him collecting donation tins, we'd love to hear your memories below.
