Lymphoedema & Lymphatic Massage đź’š
When lymphoedema is accompanied by redness, heat, increased swelling, pain or signs of infection, lymphatic massage/MLD should not be carried out until the infection has been medically assessed and has resolved or responded appropriately to treatment.
Lymphoedematous tissue is particularly vulnerable to infection, including cellulitis, so protecting the skin and recognising changes early is essential.
Once the infection has cleared and treatment has been medically approved, MLD/LMT can be a valuable part of lymphoedema management, alongside appropriate skin care, movement and compression where indicated.
⚠️ Please always seek medical advice if you suspect an infection.
Treatment will always be adapted to the individual and postponed where it is not clinically appropriate.
