Movement vs Medication 💊🏃♂️
One of the most common questions people ask is:
"Should I take anti-inflammatories, or should I keep moving?"
The truth is, it isn't always one or the other.
Medication can help reduce pain and inflammation, making day-to-day activities more comfortable. In some situations, it can be a useful short-term tool.
However, movement is often what helps create long-term improvement. Our bodies are designed to move, and the right type and amount of movement can help maintain strength, joint function, circulation and confidence in the injured area.
The key phrase is "the right movement."
Pushing through severe pain and making symptoms worse isn't usually productive. Equally, complete rest for extended periods can sometimes lead to stiffness, weakness and a longer recovery.
Rather than asking:
❌ "Should I rest or move?"
A better question is:
✅ "What level of movement can I tolerate while allowing things to recover?"
Medication may help manage symptoms, but movement often helps restore function.
Every injury and every person is different, which is why advice can sometimes vary between healthcare professionals. The best approach depends on factors such as the diagnosis, severity, stage of healing and your individual circumstances.
Pain relief can help you feel better.
Movement can help you move better.
The goal is finding the right balance between the two.
