Could gluten be connected to your symptoms? 🤔
We regularly see people experiencing pain in multiple areas of the body. When symptoms are widespread, we ask the question:
Are these separate issues — or could there be something affecting the body more broadly?
For some people, gluten-related conditions may be part of the picture, particularly when generalised pain occurs alongside:
✨ Fatigue
✨ Headaches
✨ Digestive or gut issues
✨ Problems absorbing vitamin B12
✨ A family history of coeliac disease or gluten-related conditions
Coeliac disease vs gluten sensitivity?
It’s important to understand that these are not the same thing.
A negative coeliac test does not necessarily mean your symptoms aren't related to gluten. Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition, while non-coeliac gluten sensitivity is different and can cause symptoms without the same autoimmune response.
If you suspect gluten is affecting you, don’t simply remove it from your diet without speaking to your doctor first. Coeliac testing is most reliable while you are still eating gluten.
For those exploring whether a particular food may be triggering symptoms, keeping a symptom and food diary can be a useful starting point. Your healthcare professional can then advise whether an elimination and supervised reintroduction approach is appropriate.
⚠️ One important point: If you’re investigating several foods at once, it can become difficult to identify which food is actually causing a reaction. Changing one thing at a time can make the results much clearer.
