Really useful to have a look through xx

Newborn babies have tiny stomachs and may feed frequently, particularly during cluster feeding. Feeding is also about comfort, closeness and helping establish milk supply, not only hunger.

Useful Note:
Frequent feeding can be normal, but ask for support if feeding is painful or your baby is not producing enough wet nappies.

Before your baby cries, they may turn their head, open their mouth, bring their hands towards their face or begin wriggling.

Crying is often their final way of saying, “I have been trying to tell you something.”

Learning your baby’s earlier cues can make feeding and settling feel calmer for both of you.

However- You know we cry when we need to release emotion? Babies are the same too!

Useful Note:
Watch your baby, not just the clock. Their little movements are already a conversation.

Wet and dirty nappies can tell you a lot about how your newborn is feeding and adjusting.

Their first poo is usually dark and sticky. It then changes colour and consistency over the following days.

The number of wet nappies should also gradually increase.

Useful Note:
Nappies are not glamorous, but they are one of the easiest ways to check how your baby is doing.

Newborns can grunt, squeak, snuffle, stretch and briefly cry while still asleep. Their sleep is much more active than adult sleep, so every noise does not necessarily mean they need picking up.

Useful ending:
Pause and watch for a moment. Your baby may still be completely asleep.
