💛 Meet Lucy 💛

Some of you may have heard a little more barking than usual from our farm over the last few nights.

Firstly, we’d like to say a huge thank you to our neighbour, Steve, and his family, for so generously providing temporary kennel space while these dogs complete their quarantine. Your kindness, patience and support have made a huge difference, and we’re incredibly grateful.

This beautiful girl is Lucy.
She has been rescued in connection with Project Wolfheart.

Lucy is a German Shepherd who, through no fault of her own, became surplus to requirements. She is reported to have had several litters, and years of breeding have taken their toll.

She has a severe underbite and malformation of her jaw, is underweight, and arrived needing plenty of care, good food and kindness. Despite everything she has endured, she has remained gentle, affectionate and trusting.

Sadly, Lucy’s story is not unique.

Every litter bred without careful thought contributes to the growing number of dogs who end up abandoned, unwanted or discarded when they are no longer useful. Before breeding your dog, or buying a puppy, please take time to consider the lifelong responsibility involved. There are already so many wonderful dogs waiting for a second chance.

The good news is that Lucy already has a loving home waiting for her once she has completed her rehabilitation. ❤️

Lucy is the first rescue we’re able to introduce. We’ll share her friend’s stories when it’s appropriate to do so. For welfare and legal reasons, some information cannot be made public at this stage.

We’d also like to reassure everyone that the appropriate professionals and agencies are involved throughout this process, and every decision is being made with the welfare of the animals, and best practice at its heart.

Finally, thank you to our local community for your understanding while these dogs settle in. Some barking is to be expected as they decompress and begin to realise they are finally safe. Your patience and support mean more than you know.

At Wild Minds, our students learn far more than animal care. They learn compassion, responsibility and what it means to help those who need us most. Your support allows us to give vulnerable animals a second chance while giving young people experiences that shape their futures.

Every dog deserves a second chance. 💙🐾

A calmer morning can start with one small plan.

If school refusal is part of your week right now, you are not failing, and neither is your young person. For many families, mornings can feel overwhelming long before the school day has even begun.

Sometimes the goal is not “fixing” everything. It is helping a young person feel just safe enough for the next small step.

Try keeping the morning simple:
- one comfort item
- one check-in time
- one achievable next step

At Wild Minds, we understand that some young people are not ready for a traditional setting yet. That is why we also offer community-based mentoring and flexible support where we can literally meet young people where they are, whether that is at home, in the community, or slowly building towards attending provision.

Young hands often learn best through doing.

In calm, structured spaces, young people can feel safer, think more clearly and stay regulated for longer. That is when learning, confidence and trust start to build.

If your child or young person needs support that begins with regulation, get in touch to learn more.

When movement helps the nervous system settle.

For some young people, walking beside a pony is easier than talking face to face. The steady rhythm, fresh air, and low demand can help their body feel safer first.

That is often where regulation begins. From there, connection, learning, and trust have a better chance to grow.

If this feels like something your child needs, get in touch to talk about our support and placements. 🐴

Why calm comes before learning 💚

When a young person is overwhelmed, learning cannot land properly.

At Wild Minds, we start with regulation, emotional safety, and trust. Then we build confidence, connection, and progress at a pace that feels manageable.

That is why our approach can look very different from more traditional settings. If your child has been through rejection, school refusal, or placement breakdowns, this may be the support they need.

If you’d like to understand how our regulation first approach works, send us a message.
