The Menopause Years - readiness, care, understanding, processing.
Many woman don’t feel ready for these years. They don’t want to go through it, they don’t want to experience everything it brings up.
Its understandable.
We don’t really know how to or who to talk about the deeper, darker side of the menopause, it seems.
There are huge changes occurring during our menopauseal years - not only biologically, but psychologically too. We can't try to bypass the psychological effect, as it impacts us very deeply.
It seems that we can talk with other women about the physical symptoms, and yet we all know it’s not just about hot flushes and night sweats? There is SO much more.
If this strikes a chord then it will be helpful for you to know that in the counselling room, I talk with women every day, who, with a great sense of relief, start to talk about what really matters at this time in their lives.
They talk about their inner thoughts and emotions, how they feel as they leave behind their younger selves ... and how they feel about their mounting losses. And their secret regrets.
It really helps them. Our therapeutic conversations are like no other. Things are said out loud that they’ve never said to anyone. Together we try to understand and make sense of it all.
In the main, we women can manage the physical discomforts, can’t we? What we really need help with is how we feel. Our hidden thoughts. Our fears and disappointments. Our longings.
Counselling for the menopause is so helpful. It can change how you live the rest of your life.
