Again today our Elite Care team and carer Devon has been out in the Ashton and Ince areas making sure our wonderful service users โ and our carers โ stayed cool, comfortable and hydrated in the heat after a little trip to Iceland store . We delivered lollies and cold bottled water to brighten the day and help everyone keep their fluids up. Small gestures, big impact ๐
To help everyone stay safe in warm weather, here are a few gentle reminders:
๐ผ Tips for keeping older people hydrated
Offer drinks little and often โ even a few sips every 20โ30 minutes helps.
Use highโfluid foods like jelly, ice lollies, fruit pots and yoghurt.
Keep drinks within reach and visible.
Encourage variety: squash, water, milk, decaf tea, hydration jellies.
Watch for early signs of dehydration: dry mouth, confusion, headache, darker urine.
Have a drink together โ making it social often encourages better intake.
Try the โtaste checkโ approach โ ask if the juice youโve made is too strong or too weak, or if the water is too warm or too cold. Even if they only take a tiny sip to โtest itโ, thatโs still fluid going in. These small techniques may seem simple, but they are highly effective.
๐ฟ Tips for carers looking after themselves
Keep your own water bottle topped up throughout the day.
Take short breaks in the shade between visits.
Wear light clothing and stay mindful of overheating.
If you feel unwell, pause, cool down and let the office know.
Share a drink with the person you support โ it helps them hydrate and reminds you to take a moment for yourself too.
Use the same โtaste checkโ trick for yourself โ if your drink is warm, sweeten it, cool it, or switch it. Small adjustments keep you drinking regularly.
๐Thank you to our amazing team for going the extra mile today in such hot conditions โ your kindness truly makes a difference.
