I sat in this very spot 3 years ago, the day after I left my full-time employment and my very first day of being self employed. I remember buying coffee and cake and sitting here, hardly believing that this new feeling of liberation was mine. I was excited about the future but also apprehensive - what if private practice didn't work out? What if I couldn't do this? So many what ifs!
A question I ask my clients all the time is 'What would you say to that past version of you?' And I would say 'Claire, don't worry you're going to smash it. The next three years are going to be big. You're going to get your Masters, you're going to build a successful practice and work in a way that satisfies your values, you're going to have more free time and lots more coffees and cakes but you are also going to face the hardest and saddest challenge of your life and you will manage and maintain what you are building. And in three years time you will sit back in this spot and reflect on how far you've come and how you've made your life a life you value, and you will be proud.'
