When I first meet partners at antenatal courses they tell me they are worried about letting their partners down. They want to be the best birth partner possible, and are often unsure how to do that. That's why I ensure that partners are fully involved and we talk specifically about their role in the birth, and ways in which they can make a difference.

It's worth noting in research women report that just knowing someone they love and trust is there alongside them makes the biggest difference to them.

Birth planning isn’t about predicting the future — it’s about understanding what matters to you.
Your choices. Your values. Your voice.

In this workshop we explore your options for labour and birth, how to make decisions that feel right for you, and how your partner and care team can support the experience you want.

You’ll leave with clear birth preferences, shared understanding, and a calmer sense of what’s ahead — whatever path your labour takes.

If you’d like to feel more informed, more confident, and more connected as you prepare, you’re welcome to join us.

Why do birth preferences matter?

I hear from lots of couples that they don’t intend to make a birth plan — that friends have told them it isn’t worth it.

The real question about plans or preferences is: what are they for?

First and foremost, they’re for you.
What do you want your birth to look like?
How do you want to feel?

Then they’re for your birth partners.
What do you want them to say?
How do you want them to act?

And finally, they’re for your caregivers.
What do you want from them?
How can they support you to have the birth you want?

“Parents who attend antenatal education report feeling more confident and more able to make informed decisions during labour.”

That’s really what good preparation does — it gives you clarity, reduces fear, and helps you understand what’s happening so you can choose what feels right for you.

Antenatal education isn’t about memorising facts.
It’s about feeling steady, informed, and supported when it matters most.

The Nest at Tech, Holmfirth is where our antenatal sessions take place — a dedicated family space designed for connection, conversation, and feeling at home.
It’s calm, welcoming, and human.

A room that holds people well before, during, and after birth.

Keeping your body moving in labour can make things feel more manageable.
NICE guidance shows that upright positions and gentle movement are linked with fewer caesareans and instrumental births.

It doesn’t have to be dramatic — small, instinctive movements can really help.
