🎨 Celebrating the Life & Art of Michael Buckland

We were privileged to look after Michael in May, and are proud to have his beautiful artwork displayed in our Exeter Road window.

This September, Michael's life and work will be celebrated at The House of Colours Open Studio Weekend — a chance to see some of his unseen paintings and sketchbooks, curated by his wife Sarah.

📍 52 Lyndhurst Road, Exmouth
📅 Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 September
🕚 11am – 5pm

Michael was a much-loved figure in Exmouth — Artist in the Park for the Exmouth Festival, Artist in Residence at Exmouth Museum, and a familiar face with his easel at the Christmas Day Swim.

Several of his pictures will be available to purchase, with proceeds going to the Lewy Body Society, supporting research into the form of dementia Michael lived with.

Paul Shoobridge, Company Director of Shoobridge Funeral Services, welcomes the Government's confirmed plans to bring in formal regulation of the funeral sector, following Health Secretary Yvette Cooper's statement.

Shoobridge FS has been a member of SAIF for nearly 30 years, championing industry standards and education across the profession. Both our funeral directors are fully qualified: Paul, a licensed FD and BIFD member, has long been an advocate for education and regulation; Matthew, also a qualified FD, is a fellow BIFD member. We're proud to support Alison Gater as a student with the IFD College, and it's a mandatory requirement at SFS that all our funeral directors are fully qualified.

The Minister pledged new proposals to protect dignity for the deceased, drive out rogue operators, and spare other families the heartache some have suffered. The Law Commission will also review criminal law around the deceased and recommend new offences where needed.

Paul Shoobridge: "We remain committed to working with Government and bereaved families to ensure regulation protects the public — and the many funeral directors who see high standards as non-negotiable."

Delighted to be invited to speak with the Helping Hands care team at their staff meeting at Exeter HQ.

We discussed end of life care for clients, guidance on what to do when someone passes, and had a really interesting and informative Q&A session with the team.
