Manage your screen time 💻👁️

Most of us now spend 14 hours a day or more on our screens. That’s more than the average nights sleep! See our tips and tricks to prevent eye strain from screen usage:

📴 Switch off your screens before bed. Over stimulation at night can increase eye strain.

📏 Check the distance between your face and your device. Phones should be 1 foot away from your face, laptops should be 2 feet away and TVs should be 10 feet away.

⏰ Take regular breaks from your screen to give your eyes a rest. Look away from your screen every 20 minutes, for 20 seconds and focus on something 20 feet away.

National Eye Health Week 👁️

Regular sight tests are essential for maintaining healthy eyes but there are other things you can do to look after your eyes.

🍎 Diet - Studies show that what we eat can affect our vision. Anti-oxidants can help prevent retinal damage. Some foods recommended for eye health include; broad leafy greens, brightly coloured fruit and veg and oily fish.

🏃‍♀️Exercise - Lack of exercise contributes significantly to several eye conditions, particularly in people aged 60 and over. Exercise may reduce the risk of sight loss from narrowing or hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure and diabetes.

🍷Alcohol - Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to serious health conditions which can have a detrimental effect on your eye health.

🚬 Smoking - This is the biggest risk factor for developing macular degeneration. Smoking also increases your risk of developing cataract

☀️ Sun - Protecting your eyes from the sun is very important and should not be underestimated. Under no circumstances should you ever look at the sun directly. Your sunglasses should have the CE mark on them which ensures that they are giving you the right level of ultraviolet protection.
