"I just assumed the pain was part of getting older."

We hear this a lot at our Horley clinic. Stiffness, aches, reduced mobility in the back and neck — it's easy to write it off as inevitable.

But often there's a specific, treatable reason behind it: an old injury that never quite healed properly, muscle imbalances built up over years, or simply how your body has adapted to daily habits like desk work or driving.

You don't have to just live with it. A proper assessment can tell you a lot in just one visit.

A simple stretch you can do at your desk right now 👇

Sitting for long periods tightens your hip flexors and rounds your upper back, which can pull on your lower back and neck and cause pain that seems to come from nowhere.

Try this: stand up, step one foot back, and gently push your hips forward until you feel a stretch at the front of your hip. Hold for 20-30 seconds each side. Then roll your shoulders back and gently tuck your chin to release neck tension.

Small habits like this make a real difference — but if the pain persists, it's worth getting it properly assessed.

Myth: "Neck pain is just something you get from sleeping wrong."

Fact: Yes, an awkward night's sleep can trigger it — but recurring neck pain is often linked to posture, screen time, stress held in the shoulders, or old injuries that never fully resolved.

If your neck pain keeps coming back, it's worth finding out why — rather than waiting for the next "wrong" night's sleep.
