As therapists, we have the privilege of working with carers every week, especially during home visits. Carers vary, some are family members, others are from agencies - but their role is always central, and we make sure they’re actively involved.

A patient’s progress depends on many external factors, and a vital one is carer collaboration. Involvement isn’t just handing over an exercise sheet - it’s teaching safe handling, building confidence, and empowering carers to support the patient toward maximum, safe independence.

Carers and therapists share the same goal: helping patients reclaim as much safe independence as possible.

Thank you to all carers! 😊👏 If you can, make a carer feel extra appreciated this week.

Do any of these sound familiar?

✅ "I need to be more active, but I don't want to go alone."
✅ "I'd prefer to go to the gym or exercise with someone else."
✅ "I enjoy meeting new people!"

There are so many benefits to being active as part of a group:
- A positive boost for your mental wellbeing
- Greater consistency through accountability and support
- Exercise becomes enjoyable rather than a chore
- Guidance and encouragement throughout your journey by a qualified physiotherapist helping to lower the risk of injury
- Opportunities to meet like-minded people with shared interests

That's why PHT is excited to introduce and reintroduce our group sessions:
1. Walk & Run Club - starting next Tuesday 9th June
2. Seated Pilates - ongoing!

A class for everyone!

We look forward to welcoming you to one of our sessions.
Come along, get active, and connect with others in a supportive environment!

We had the pleasure of having Jodine Williams CPsychol AFBPsS deliver some very insightful information at our CPD session today.

The aim was to understand the importance of sports psychology input in order to get the best out of clients.

One key takeaway from one of our physiotherapists:

"It’s good to know that we’re all facing the same challenges... remembering sometimes things are outside our scope of practice and we have to refer to psych for the more challenging client presentations but also work jointly with them to help them (client). Finally, it’s not always about fixing/finding solutions but creating a safe space, rapport and just reflecting and listening with the client."

Thank you Jodine, definitely some useful tips and considerations for our personal practice moving forward! ☺️

Last week, along with the rest of the world we took some time to meditate... Kajol's newest blog will discuss a little bit on how mediation helps with conservative pain management.

Have a read and share it with a friend!☺️

Pain can affect every part of daily life. It influences movement, sleep, work, exercise, and mental wellbeing.

22/05/2026

Yesterday (21st May), we recognised World Meditation day and engaged in a couple minutes of meditation.
Meditation plays an important role in pain management, the work hand in hand. Kajol tells us a little bit more about these in our most recent blog (Conservative Pain Management) posted on our website.

So
1. Take some time to engage in meditation activities even if it is during your lunch break, get the team involved!
2. Head over to https://lnkd.in/eXgWVJjk to learn more about the link between conservative pain management and meditation.

The month of May is widely recognised as Hypertension Awareness month, with a special focus on the 17th May, designated as World Hypertension day.

This year, the theme is: "Controlling Hypertension Together: check your blood pressure regularly, defeat the silent killer”

An estimated 1.4 billion people live with hypertension and an estimated 600 million adults with hypertension (44%) are unaware that they have the condition.

But what is hypertension?
Hypertension or 'High blood pressure' as it is more commonly known, is when the pressure in your blood vessels is too high.

Sometimes one may not feel the symptoms and may only find out when their blood pressure is checked. Although this may seem harmless it can develop into something more sinister if not treated and managed well. Other times, symptoms such as severe headaches, nausea, vomitting, dizznes buzzing in the ears may present.

Having high blood pressure can contribute to angina, a heart attack/failure, irregular heartbeat, strokes, kidney damage/failure. These can all lead to sudden death depending on the severity.

Physiotherapists aim to be holistic with our management, so at PHT our top tips help with healing and to control our blood pressure:

1. Diet- balanced diets, reduce the salt and saturated fats in the diet

2. Being more active - researchs show atleast 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity is key along with strengthening exercises atleast twice a week.

3. If you have a desk-based job with lots of sitting, take regular movement breaks

4. Find ways to manage your stress effectively, going for walks in a green space is a great idea

5. If you are at risk, ensure you seeing your GP/Nurse/Pharmacist to get checked regularly.

This Stroke Awareness Month, we are putting our spotlight on Warren!

Warren, came to see us following an old stroke. He was mobile, but had what he called a 'typical stroke gait', and he had potential to get this a lot better. Due to his previous service in the military and his personality, he was highly motivated and keen to get better. Working with him, he was able to improve his strength and balance, making walking and standing up easier! This year for 'March for March', Warren walked 30 miles raising funds for a veteran charity via the Shaw Trust Charity! 👏👏

This May, let us be intentional - challenge yourself to learn 1 new thing about strokes and it's impact on survivors or even give a donation to further this work via Stroke.org website!
Thank you Warren for sharing a piece of your story.
