We often see days put aside on social media, to highlight a particular cause, person or need.
Just like on our regular calendars e.g. Mothers day, Fathers day, Valentines day, Grandparents day, Birthdays.
Well, today is International Friendship day and I believe friendship should be celebrated everyday.
Now as a well-being facilitator I know sometimes it is hard to find friendships that can be lasting and relied upon.
But I think we need to look at "friendship" differently.
An analogy I use in my sessions about the people in our lives, is that of the life cycle of a tree.
This tree has many branches full of luscious green leaves and a good strong root system.

Can you see it in your mind?
Some leaves are far away from the trunk on the farthest tips of the branch.

Blowing in the wind......
Now, as the seasons come and go, so do the leaves.
Some leaving the branch to dance in the air and blow far away.
Some dropping to the the floor and decaying to nourish the roots of the tree once more.

The mainstay is the trunk and the sturdy roots who are outnumbered by the many leaves.

Now, my analogy....
You are the trunk of the tree and should be your own best friend and show yourself kindness.
The leaves....
Are the many people who come and go throughout your life..
These people are in our lives for a
"Season or a reason".
They may just be there to teach us a life lesson or are only needed for that particular period in our lives.
Now the roots...
These are our foundation and are the ones who are there for us. Those who are there in the darkest times and help support us.
The ones who see you, help you to rebuild and grow strong over time again and again and again.
So, on this day of friendship.... celebrate all the parts of your tree including you!
So, happy tree day!!π³π³π³
