💗🥃 Celebrating the life of the wonderful Lizzy today.

Back in June, I had the absolute privilege of meeting Lizzy as she planned the final chapter of her journey herself. True to her amazing character, she left strict instructions, chose her own gorgeous coffin, and even made sure her family decorated it just how she wanted.

Arriving in style, both chapels were full of people whose lives she touched. Her service was a beautiful reflection of her character, filled with tears, but also overflowing with laughter, including a couple of classic jokes she made sure to leave behind for us.

An incredible honour and privilege to be a part of the team giving her the send-off she dreamed of.

'Appy Yorksher Day!

Eyup! Gran' mornin, 'a eur theur.

If tha didn't knaw, today—is Yorkshire Day! Time for us Yorksher fowk to celebrate God’s Own Country properly.

Some say it should be "county," but when you stick the North, West, and East Ridings together, also South (and ignore them silly boundary changes back in 1974), we’re bigger than some European countries and have a population similar to the whole of Scotland. We’re massive!

York wasn't just God's own city; it was the second biggest seat of power outside London, packed with Roman history and Viking roots. And our dialect? Still brimming with ancient Norse and Germanic words proper reyt proper language, that!

We're generally a friendly bunch (though like anyroad, some can be reyt miserable gets). So, if you're not from round 'ere, I hereby dub thee an "Honorary Yorkshire Person." You're free to roam our hills, grab some fish and chips, and join in on our national anthem: "On Ilkley Moor Baht 'At" (a lovely little ditty about a bloke who flirts, dies, gets eaten by worms, ducks, and eventually his own family. Lovely fowk, us! 😂).

To help you blend in, remember t' golden rule:

'Ear all, see all, seh nowt,
Eyt all, sup all, pay fer nowt,
An' if ivver tha duz owt fer nowt,
Allus do it fer thi sen!

(Translation: Keep your nose in everyone else's business, take free food, and never work for owt unless it benefits you!)

The 20-year custodial sentence handed to Legacy Director - Robert Bush brings a very small measure of accountability for his actions, but the pain endured by all those affected families is a lifelong burden no one should ever have to carry.

His actions didn't just betray the entire funeral profession, one that is built on care, trust and respect, he has inflicted deep, lifelong lasting anguish and pain on the very people he was entrusted to serve, there are no words for that - it is heartbreaking.

True funeral professionals are united and we are all sickened by these events. Not just funeral directors but all in the profession are sickened.

Today and always, our commitment remains firmly anchored in upholding the highest standards of dignity, compassion and respect for every family and loved one.

I hold the highest National Open College Network (NOCN) L4 Diploma in Advanced Funeral Practice and I am a Member of the Association of Independent Celebrants (AOIC) working to their code of conduct, they are supplier members of SAIF and also NAFD.

My thoughts remain with every person affected 💜

"Life has a purpose - to live, to learn and to love."

Tuesday family and friends gathered in a sea of orange and yellow as we shared the story of a remarkable lady who trail blazed her own path.

Sharing her story with words by her family we recalled how she was one of the first female soldiers to be posted to a front-line unit as in those days, female soldiers could only serve in the rear.

After a pictorial tribute with photos, we then carried out an act of remembrance with The Union Jack draped over her coffin, Kevin from Military Funeral Bugler played the last post and reveille silence fell.

Some days are tough - incredibly tough! Others are a happy celebration. We are celebrating the most amazing people and their life stories - no matter how long or short a life has been. We only get one chance to make this right.

But, when you receive feedback on the day and you also read the difference you make to families, there is no comparison to that feeling.

Every so often, someone carries a unique and thoughtful presence that draws others in creating a sense of belonging, a steadiness of spirit, and an assurance that things are held with care simply through the manner of their being.

As George Eliot once wrote:
"What do we live for, if not to make life less difficult for each other."

This afternoons lady was someone who took an active interest in the world and the people in it. Not in a curtain-twitching way, but with a genuine curiosity and a warm appreciation for her surroundings. She noticed things and she paid attention, valued the little details that others might overlook, and she always kept herself busy.

There was never any room for boredom in her days; she filled them with purpose, activity, a love of sport, holiday or a bit of shopping and that marked so much of her character.

What an incredible honour to piece together story and working alongside Adrian and the team at Bensons she had the best. 💜
