The government has published new guidance to help parents of under 5s manage screen time and support healthy development.
For children under 2, avoid screens except for shared family use. For ages 2–5, limit screen time to no more than one hour a day, and less where possible. Choose simple, slow-paced content, and avoid fast, over-stimulating videos.
Keep mealtimes and bedrooms screen-free, and encourage reading, play, and conversation instead. Children copy adult behaviour, so try to model healthy screen use.
Most importantly, screens should never replace sleep, physical activity, play, or quality time together.
