ADULT Flu & Covid Clinics - Flu Lines Open TUESDAY 25th August at 11am.

Last week we sent out letters to all our eligible adult patients who do not have a mobile or email address on their records. If you have received a letter, please could you advise the surgery when booking/declining, of an email or mobile number we can use in future to help reduce NHS costs & carbon footprint. We will not be sending out 2nd reminders by post.

For everyone entitled to a Flu only, or Flu & Covid vaccination that has a verified email or mobile number on their records, invitations will start going out tomorrow morning. Please use the self booking link if you can, to avoid waiting on the phone.

If you received a booking link via SMS, but you are unable to book this with your phone, please call the surgery booking line between 11am - 3pm ONLY from Tuesday 25th August to book.

When booking your appointment online, you will be given a choice to book at Combe Martin or Ilfracombe. PLEASE only book a Combe Martin appointment if you live in Combe Martin and it is difficult to get into the Ilfracombe surgery, as appointments in Combe Martin are limited.

Please be aware that the booking link expires within 7 days.

Our clinics are sorted into Over 65's and Under 65's and you will be sent the appropriate appointment link.

All our slots are named "Flu & Covid" however you will only receive a covid vaccination at your appointment if you are entitled. (Please see https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/COVID-19-vaccine/ for more information).

If you are entitled to both but only want a Flu vaccination, please book as normal and advise the nurse at your appointment. Please note we do not vaccinate against Covid only, if you do not want or need a Flu vaccination, please contact the NHS covid booking line to book covid only.

Please be aware that the online booking system & Flu telephone line can get very busy and if you are struggling to get through, please try again later.

We will be sending out invitations to eligible children at a later date. Please be aware that school age children will be invited for vaccination through the school.

Thank you.

DrinkCoach Service

Alcohol has an impact on our health and wellbeing, from headaches, sleepless nights and feeling unwell the next day, to high blood pressure, anxiety and cancer. The impact on our health, wellbeing and relationships can get worse the more we drink.

DrinkCoach can help adults who drink to understand, track and manage their drinking through an app or free on line or telephone coaching with an alcohol professional. Those who can benefit are increasing (hazardous) and higher‑risk (harmful) drinkers who may be putting their health at risk, but don’t want to engage with the alcohol treatment service.

If you suspect alcohol dependence, it is not safe to stop drinking suddenly without medical advice. Advise the person to contact their GP for assessment and advice before attempting to stop or significantly cut down drinking.

What is Drinkcoach

DrinkCoach is a digital alcohol harm prevention and early‑intervention offer owned by WayThrough, who also provide the adult alcohol treatment in Devon under the local name of Together Drug and Alcohol Service – the following tools are available now:

DrinkCoach Alcohol Test

The Alcohol Test is a digital version of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). The user is asked 10 questions and will receive brief advice and signposting dependent on their score and risk category. It is designed to normalise alcohol “checkins” and to prompt early action.

Take the alcohol test online on the DrinkCoach website here:

Take the Bolton Alcohol Test to find out if you could benefit from cutting down with the help of an alcohol specialist.

Men B Vaccination available to young people from Pharmacy

Who can get the MenB vaccine at a pharmacy?

You can get the MenB vaccine at a pharmacy if either:
you were born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2008
you were born on or after 21 July 2001 and you’re starting university, or starting at some further education colleges as a residential student, for the first time this autumn (including if you’re an international student or a student from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)

How the MenB vaccine is given

The MenB vaccine is given in 2 doses. You should have your 2nd dose of the vaccine at least 4 weeks after your 1st dose.

Get your 1st dose as soon as you can, so you have time to get both doses and make sure you’re fully protected before the academic year begins.
