Rebecca Boddington - SLT Services

Rebecca Boddington - SLT Services I’m Rebecca Boddington, a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. I work with adults with neurological communication and swallowing needs. Hello!

I visit in your home. I cover North and West Yorkshire. I am Rebecca Boddington (Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist). Having left the NHS in 2024, I bring with me nearly a decade of experience working with adults who have acquired a communication and/or swallowing difficulty. The majority of my work has been with people who have a diagnosis affecting the brain, including motor neurone

disease, Parkinson's, dementia, Huntington's disease, MS, brain tumour and stroke. I also have experience working with respiratory, elderly medicine and surgical specialties. I am deeply passionate about supporting and empowering my clients to live well, through evidence-based, holistic and thoughtful therapeutic management. I offer services for individuals in their own homes and care settings. I have highly developed skills in assessment of communication and/or swallowing needs, as well as mental capacity. I can provide and deliver comprehensive therapy plans which target meaningful, functional gains in the context of your daily life. I am keen that my service is not in opposition or a duplicate of NHS provision, but an enhanced offering which mitigates the challenges clients may experience accessing care due to waiting times or commissioning. I have current HCPC registration (23/25) and can be searched on the register via 'Boddington' or 'SL33471'. I am fully insured as a certified member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy. I am a member of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice. I would love to talk more about what I could offer, please do get in touch for a free consultation.

My experience in public services has been that communication support for people living with dementia is non-existent.

As a result, people often don’t know what speech and language therapy can offer to help people living with dementia and the networks around them.

I work with clients at all stages of the condition, looking at both communication and swallowing and focusing on what is important to that person.

I don’t just work to advocate for their needs and give advice, I also work directly to optimise communication, maintain connections and enhance wellbeing.

I have always been frustrated by the lack of public service provision for people living with dementia. It is so important that our profession continues to speak up for how SLT can enhance support for people living with dementia and the people around them.

🎉 I’m working as usual this week and enjoying leaving the house this morning with a bag packed full of resources on my clients favourite topics; ABBA, Tottenham Hotspur, gardening and travel today.

💕 One of the best parts of my job is spending time thinking of therapy activities which engage, motivate and progress my clients.

🙏 I love learning about people and using therapy as a medium for them to share their passions, whilst working on skills which are important to them.

When I first qualified, I was excited that SLT is a career of continuous learning but I don’t think I fully appreciated that the value is not just in the clinical and academic learning but learning about people and the things that matter to them.

Who knew I’d be an expert in Leeds United, choral music and women’s cricket … 😊

SCHOOLS OUT FOR SUMMER
I am taking some leave next week and then will be working reduced hours over the holidays.
I'm already looking ahead to September with some exciting training courses booked including using trauma-informed approaches, and then attending the Parkinson's Clinical Excellence Network in November.
But before that, wish me luck surviving the summer holidays!

July is Disability Pride Month.

Accessibility gives people with MND the power to stay connected, heard and in control. That’s why accessibility is such an important part of pride.

The latest MND Matters episode explores the world of voice banking and how rapidly evolving technology is helping people preserve their voices and stay heard in their own way.

☀️ It’s going to be another hot day today!

🧠 We all struggle in the heat from time to time, but when you are living with a neurological condition you can be more vulnerable to the effects.

🙌 Therapy doesn’t have to stop, but I will be thinking about the impact on my clients and monitoring more carefully.

I’ll be focusing on:

- keeping my clients hydrated

- finding a cool space for sessions

- observing for signs of fatigue and pacing sessions as needed

We can be grateful for some sunshine ☀️ and enjoy positive and effective sessions all at the same time! 😎 💦
