Self compassion is so important on this journey.
We speak to ourselves more than anyone else does.
Speak to yourself kindly.

Your body is protecting you.

That's what our nervous system does. It runs our body functions, and it's our alarm system. When it shuts down, it's because it's feeling unsafe.

Our job in healing, is learning to feel safe. Not easy, but it gets easier.

It can be easy to give up on the little things because they don't seem to make a big impact.

These small changes lay the ground work. The small changes add up to the big changes.

Keep doing the small stuff, and the bigger stuff will come

One of the quickest things we can do to change state is by using our breath.

In just a few breaths we can feel a sense of calm and release. Like any skill, it needs practising.

Many of you know that I love Lord of the Rings.

One of my favourite indoor activities is a LoTR marathon - watching all the films back to back (extended editions of course) - if you include the 3 hobbit films too then it's a 24 hours activity!

I have a sword which hangs on my wall (it's Aragorn's sword, Anduril, if you want to know!)

And something that brought me the greatest of joys during my illness was the weekly LoTR read-aloud - joining friends online where we read a chapter aloud each week. Each person was assigned a character or narrator role, or was able to come along and listen rather than participate. It was wonderful.

And there's so much from Tolkien that is relevant to today. Such as this quote.
There is SO much bad in the world, in our lives, in each day.
Which makes it all the more important to see the good - because there is so much good.
