Moomin Sauna - this is a perfect model from the basement of the model Moomin House. It was built by three adults who never forgot how to play – Tove Jansson, her partner Tuulikki Pietilä and their friend, physician Pentti Eistola. First exhibited in 1979 and now on display at the Moomin Museum, Finland, to celebrate 80 years of the Moomin Characters who believe in kindness, compassion and play.

Lonna Sauna, Island of Lonna, Helsinki. This sauna won architecture prizes and is built from beautiful crated larch. The larch benches have a soft aroma and the space was social and chatty when we were there, no better place to spend a rainy day.

Kotiharajun Sauna, Helsinki's oldest Public Sauna (1928) with a huge log pile for a very large storage stove. Our stove in Inverness will be electric but just as much appreciated. At Kotiharajun Sauan they ask for everyone too: "Please give others sauna peace and for your part, take care that the premises remain clean and pleasant for the following sauna customers as well." 120 years old this year! Finland's oldest public sauna - Rajaportin sauna in Tampere still well used and well loved. Visited by us this summer and more Finnish Public Sauna posts to follow in readiness for Inverness's first public sauna perhaps we celebrate its 120th birthday in 2146. "Just one more round", who else is always reluctant to leave the peaceful heat of the sauna? This is Watershed Sauna at Findhorn , it's a wonderful place to see how sauna and nature fit together. Walking from the sea to the sauna bench is an intense and restorative experience. Our Sauna in Bellfield Park will have seats for 20 or so people and an entrance porch to protect the heat in the sauna as people come and go. We hope people will sauna all year round, when the days are frosty and cold and when they are toasty and warm too. Please do share and follow!

This Cherry Tree will sit by the gate onto the Sauna site in Bellfield Park, a way marker into a place for rest and relaxation. Just like we wait for these blossoms to bloom, we can't wait to get started on the sauna build this year. We have been working quietly over Winter on the design and development, getting everything ready to Spring into action. More news to come, please share and follow.
