💜 7 years ago, it started with a patch of ground
Seven years ago, the groundwork began for what would become my therapy cabin - The Zen Den
Peace of Mind had already been running for three years by then, from a room inside our home, but I remember watching this space begin to take shape and imagining what it might become.
First there was just the ground, then the foundations, the walls and eventually, I had my very own space to work from.
And looking through these photographs now, I can't quite believe how much has changed.
The inside certainly doesn't look the way it did back then! 😂
Over the years things have moved, treatments have changed, new instruments have appeared (and then a few more and a few more after that 🤣), and little by little it's become the peaceful space you see today.
But when I look at these photographs, it's not really the changes to the cabin that mean the most to me.
It's everything that's happened within those four walls.
So many wonderful people have walked through that door over the past seven years.
People who've arrived anxious, overwhelmed, frightened, grieving, exhausted or simply needing somewhere they could stop for a while.
People who've trusted me with incredibly personal parts of their lives.
People who've laughed in that room, cried in that room, relaxed deeply in that room, learned in that room and sometimes surprised themselves with just how much could change.
It's also where I've welcomed so many lovely students, watched nerves turn into confidence, handed out certificates and seen people leave excited to begin the next chapter of their own journey.
And while I've been helping and teaching others, I've changed too.
I've learned so much. I've trained in new therapies, developed my skills, created new treatments and courses, changed direction when I've needed to, made mistakes, learned from them and grown enormously both as a therapist and as a person.
There are things I do today that I couldn't possibly have imagined when that first bit of ground was being prepared seven years ago.
And I think that's what these photographs have reminded me of.
We tend to look at where we are now and immediately think about where we want to go next.
We don't always stop and turn around to see how far we've already come.
So today I'm doing exactly that.
I'm looking back at a patch of ground, a half-built cabin, that first little therapy room and then at the space I'm lucky enough to walk into every morning.
And mostly, I'm feeling incredibly grateful.
Grateful to every person who has booked an appointment, attended a course, recommended me to someone, left a review, shared a post, returned for another treatment or simply supported Peace of Mind along the way 💜
You are all part of the story of this cabin too.
Seven years of this space.
Ten years of Peace of Mind coming up later this year.
And thousands of conversations, treatments, breakthroughs, tears, laughs and hugs 🥰 and moments that could never be captured in these photographs.
What started with a room in my house became this.
And somehow, along the way, Peace of Mind became so much more than I ever imagined it would be.
Thank you for being part of it. 💜
