Looking for something more meaningful than another afternoon activity?

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) isn’t simply a collection of activities designed to “keep the brain busy”.

It’s a structured, evidence-based psychosocial intervention for people living with dementia, with a specific aim of stimulating cognitive and social functioning.

And importantly, there’s a difference between doing activities that happen to use cognition and delivering Cognitive Stimulation Therapy.

CST brings together carefully structured activities and discussions designed to stimulate areas such as memory, language, attention and orientation, while also encouraging communication and social interaction.

The evidence matters too.

NICE recommends offering group CST to people living with mild to moderate dementia, and research has demonstrated benefits in areas including cognition, with evidence also suggesting benefits for quality of life, communication and mood. (Nice)

So, if you’re thinking:

“Could we actually set up CST in our setting?”

Yes — and that’s exactly what this session is about.

🧠 Setting Up a Cognitive Stimulation Therapy Group in Your Setting

A practical session exploring what CST is, what makes it different from general activities or cognitive exercises, and how you can introduce a structured CST group within your own setting.

If you’re a care home manager, activity professional, dementia practitioner, therapist or health and social care professional, this is an opportunity to understand the approach and how it can be implemented in practice.

Not just another activity.
Not cognitive worksheets.
Not keeping people occupied.

An evidence-based intervention with a clear purpose.

So… if you’re new here, who exactly are Mindful Care Training & Consultancy?

I thought it was probably about time I introduced us properly for those that have just joined us!

Mindful Care started from a real passion for making a difference to the experience of dementia care — not just for the person living with dementia, but for their families, the people supporting them and the staff providing that care every single day.

And over time, Mindful Care has grown into so much more! We now have a fantastic team of trainers and consultants on board, and we’re able to offer support across a much wider range of areas.

Our work mainly sits around three key areas:

- Dementia care

We provide training, education and consultancy around all things dementia. From understanding dementia and how it affects a person, to communication, distress, changes in behaviour, person-centred care, relationships, meaningful engagement and supporting people to live well.

We’re also incredibly proud to have Teepa Snow Positive Approach® to Care trainers within our team, delivering this brilliant, practical approach to dementia care.

Activities, engagement & meaningful occupation

This is something we are particularly passionate about.l’

If you’re an activity assistant, activity coordinator or part of a care team and sometimes think “I know I want to do more, but I’m not quite sure what that looks like” — we can help!

Activities aren’t just about keeping someone busy.

It’s about knowing the person, understanding what they enjoy, what they can still do, what makes them feel valued and how we can adapt things as dementia progresses.

Sometimes it’s about completely changing the way we think about “activities”.

We are also are great advocates for cognitive stimulation therapy. Montessori and namaste! All we can provide training and support on!

- Mental health & wellbeing

And then there’s the person behind the care. Maybe this is you?!

Whether you’re a family carer, a member of a care team or simply someone who spends your days supporting other people, your own wellbeing matters too.

We can provide training and support around mental health, wellbeing, resilience, self-care and the emotional side of caring.

Because you can’t keep pouring from an empty cup — and sometimes we need someone to remind us of that.

Alongside our training, we also provide bespoke consultancy and support.

Sometimes an organisation knows something needs to change but doesn’t know where to start. Sometimes a team is struggling with a particular situation. Sometimes you just need someone independent to come in, listen, look at what’s happening and help you find a way forward.

That’s where we come in!

We don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. We listen first and then work with you to provide something that is actually relevant to you, your team and the people you support.

We deliver face-to-face across the UK and also provide online training and consultancy overseas.

Our website is currently getting a makeover to reflect all the changes happening within Mindful Care, including the fantastic new colleagues we’ve welcomed to the team and some really exciting ventures that are coming.

There is lots happening behind the scenes at the moment — and I can’t wait to share more with you.

So, whether you work in dementia care, support someone living with dementia, are an activity assistant looking for more support and training, want to develop your team’s skills, or you’re looking for support with your own mental health and wellbeing…

Please get in touch. - [email protected]

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before you contact us. Sometimes it’s just a conversation and we can work it out together.

And if you’ve been here for a while, thank you for continuing to follow, share, recommend and support Mindful Care. It really does mean a lot.

The calm before the storm! A great (and very busy!) day at the Norfolk and Suffolk Health and Care Expo 2026 in Newmarket today,

Brilliant to reconnect with familiar faces and meet so many new people across the sector. There were some really positive conversations around training, consultancy, and how we can continue to support care partners in meaningful ways.

Exciting opportunities ahead — looking forward to following up and turning those conversations into action.

If we can help you or your organisation please get in touch at [email protected]

A great day in London yesterday with the wonderful CrossSence team

As Occupational Therapists and dementia consultants, it was exciting to explore how Occupational Therapy principles can be incorporated into digital solutions and app development to support people living with dementia in their everyday lives.

Our discussions focused on maintaining independence, supporting daily routines, enabling participation in meaningful activities, and finding practical ways that technology can complement—not replace—good dementia care.

Working alongside professionals with expertise in IT, digital development, and dementia care brings together different perspectives and skill sets, creating opportunities to develop solutions that are both practical and person-centred.

At Mindful Care Training & Consultancy, we're pleased to be supporting the team with Occupational Therapy input, dementia consultancy, information, advice, and guidance.

A great team, lots of interesting conversations, and plenty of ideas to take away.

I was back at my old high school and sixth form in Suffolk this week—this time not as a student, but delivering training to music students on dementia care and the powerful role music can play in supporting people living with dementia.

It’s a strange feeling returning after 20 years… ( how?!) 😩😩😩 somehow it feels like only a few years ago, yet at the same time a completely different lifetime. Not much had really changed either—back in the drama and music building where I spent a lot of my time there was still quite a few of the same teachers!

Really inspiring to see the next generation engaging with this work and recognising the impact they can have beyond the classroom.
