A little leaving basket for one of our Young People as they get ready to move on and establish a home of their own. 🏡

It’s always a bit bittersweet when someone leaves us, but this is exactly what all the support, conversations, challenges and independence work are ultimately about ❤️

A few practical bits, a few home comforts, and hopefully some things that make a new place feel a little more like their place.

A new home, a new chapter and a lot to look forward to. We know you can do it 🏡☺️

📚🏖️ Learning looks a little different on the Isle of Wight!

One of our Young People took their AQA Independence Skills work out of the house and down to the beach this week.

A change of scenery, some fresh sea air and a chance to keep working towards their AQA awards - definitely one of the perks of island life! 🌊☀️

A couple of our Young People spent some time making cupcakes recently. 🧁

Baking is a great way to practise everyday skills like following instructions, measuring ingredients, planning ahead and, of course, cleaning up afterwards!

It also gave everyone a chance to have a chat and enjoy something they’d made themselves.

Not a bad effort if we do say so ourselves! 🎂🧁❤️

Looking after your sexual health is an important part of looking after your overall wellbeing 💪💙

At Wightoak Youth Services, we believe everyone should have access to clear, accurate information to help them make informed decisions about their health.

Many sexually transmitted infections don’t cause symptoms, so regular testing can be an important part of staying healthy. If you’re sexually active, don’t wait until something feels wrong - getting checked is confidential, straightforward and often free.

A huge thank you to our local sexual health services and community organisations for the fantastic support they provide to young people across the Isle of Wight.

🌱 Wightoak Wisdom of the Week 🌱

This month, our focus is on Physical Health – looking after our bodies so we can live happier, healthier lives. 💚

This week’s quote is:

“The greatest wealth is health.”

Looking after your physical health doesn’t have to mean making huge changes. It can be as simple as getting outside, moving your body, eating well, getting enough sleep, or taking time to rest when you need it. Every small choice you make to care for yourself is an investment in your future. 🌟

🌼 You’ll find this quote written on seed paper, placed around the Isle of Wight.

📸 If you discover one, snap a photo, tag us , and then plant it to grow wildflowers – a reminder that just like our wellbeing, good health grows with a little care and attention. 🌱

A couple of weeks ago, the Wightoak team took some time out to enjoy a BBQ and a paddleboarding session together. 🌊🍔☀️

Supporting Young People starts with supporting one another 💪

Investing in team wellbeing helps us build stronger relationships, recharge, and return to work feeling connected and refreshed.

It was a fantastic afternoon full of laughter, encouragement (and a few unexpected swims! 😄), reminding us that taking time to look after ourselves is just as important as looking after others.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable afternoon. 💙

🥒🍰 A fantastic team effort in the kitchen this week as our Young People turned homegrown courgettes into a delicious courgette cake!

From grating and mixing to baking and, of course, taste-testing, everyone played their part. What a great way to build cooking skills, try something new, and make the most of the homegrown vegetables!

Safe to say there weren’t many leftovers! 😋💚

🌻 The challenge is on! 🌻

Our High Hopes Sunflower Competition has officially started!

We’ve planted the seeds, and now it’s over to our Young People to do the hard work. 🌱 Water them, look after them, give them plenty of sunshine (when the British weather allows! ☀️🌦️) and see who can grow the tallest sunflower.

Bragging rights are up for grabs… and of course the title of Wightoak’s Sunflower Champion 2026! 🏆🌻

We’ll be sharing updates as they grow, so watch this space. May the best Young Person win!

🌱🥕 Something exciting is growing at Wightoak… and it’s not just our Young People! 😄

Our little vegetable patch is starting to come to life! We’ve already got carrots and beans making an appearance, and we’re keeping everything crossed for our potatoes, tomatoes and peppers, which are taking their time! 🥔🍅🫑

Growing our own food is a brilliant way to build independence, patience and confidence (plus it’s a great excuse to get outside in the sunshine! ☀️).

A couple of weeks ago, we were delighted to welcome the Royal Navy to Wightoak Youth Services ⚓️💙

A huge thank you to the team for taking the time to talk to our Young People about the wide range of careers, training opportunities and life in the Royal Navy.

What made us especially proud was the way our Young People engaged throughout the session. They asked thoughtful, insightful questions, showed genuine curiosity, and represented themselves brilliantly.

Opportunities like these help broaden horizons, challenge perceptions and encourage Young People to think about the many different paths available to them.

Thank you again to the Royal Navy for an inspiring visit – we hope to welcome you back in the future! ⚓
