Happy 78th Birthday to the NHS! 🎉🎂

Today, we proudly celebrate 78 years of the NHS – 78 years of compassion, innovation and outstanding care for our communities.

This milestone is also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the beautiful new garden adjoining the Intensive Care Unit. Created as a peaceful sanctuary, it offers patients, families and staff a calm space for reflection, recovery and respite during some of life's most challenging moments.

Becky in ICU said "We are delighted with the new garden attached to the Intensive Care Unit which was made possible through generous donations and our ICU Charity Fund.”

She continued, “It has been a place where patients have taken their first steps in recovery; families have shared precious moments, and even a wedding was celebrated with lights, flowers, and love.
It's been somewhere for tearful mums, relatives, and staff to find privacy, support, and hope. It reminds us not to forget how lucky we are to have a space that makes such a difference—a place where patients come first, conversations happen, and care extends beyond the bedside."

The NHS has always been about more than medicine – it's about people, kindness and hope. Our new ICU garden reflects those values, providing a healing environment that supports wellbeing alongside world-class clinical care.

Happy 78th Birthday, NHS. Thank you to every member of Team NHS, past and present, for your unwavering dedication and commitment.

🚴 A Huge Congratulations and Thank You to Keith Herbert! 💙
Local fundraiser Keith Herbert has raised an incredible £3,298 for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Charity after taking on an epic 7-day cycling challenge through the Pyrenees.

After receiving a recent diagnosis, Keith wanted to give something back to the hospital that has supported him. He chose to fundraise for the chemotherapy unit's fish tank, as he wanted to support a project where he could see the difference his fundraising would make to other patients and their families.

Setting himself an initial target of £1,500, Keith was overwhelmed by the generosity of his family, friends and supporters, who helped him raise more than double that amount.

His amazing efforts mean the chemotherapy fish tank can once again become a calming and welcoming feature for patients receiving treatment at St Mary's Hospital.

Thank you, Keith, for your determination, generosity and incredible achievement. Your support will make a lasting difference to so many people. 💙

If you'd like to support the ongoing upkeep of the chemotherapy fish tank, Keith's fundraising page is still open: 🔗

Mike is lifting for his local hospital

In October last year, Mike was rushed to hospital and ended up in intensive care with Covid and bacterial pneumonia. His fitness and age (71), combined with the treatment he received, saw him fight his illness and go on to make a full recovery.

Following the brilliant care he received from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, and to say thank you, Mike is lifting 5 tonnes (in 15 minutes) in support of the hospital’s charity. This is the equivalent of two pick-up trucks!🛻 Go Mike 💪

The challenge is taking place on 24 June at Mike's local gym in Bonchurch and if you'd like to donate, you can go to his fundraising page here:

Thank you M&M’s Toddler Group

The wonderful team at M&M’s Toddler Group in Cowes have held a tea and coffee fundraising event which included a raffle to raise money for two charities that have links to the children and families who use their services.

As a result, they presented the Paediatric Diabetes Team at St Mary’s with over £200 for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Charity. Sadly, the toddler group is ending but they have kindly offered to donate toys from the group to the Children’s Outpatient Department. What a lovely gesture.
