Fewer than 1 in 3 adults meet the recommended strength training guidelines.

And the cost of that is silent — gradual loss of muscle mass, strength, and function. 🏥

This is sarcopenia: A slow decline in muscle that increases risk of falls, injury, fatigue, and loss of independence with age.🫀

It doesn’t happen overnight. But it does happen faster when you don’t train.

Sciatica is one of the most commonly misunderstood conditions I see in clinic.

Many people are told they have a “trapped nerve” or a “slipped disc,” but modern healthcare understanding shows it’s often more complex than that. Sciatica can involve nerve irritation, inflammation, sensitivity, and movement intolerance — and not all leg pain is actually sciatica.

Conditions involving the hip, glutes, lower back, or surrounding nerves can present in very similar ways, which is why assessment matters.

The good news?

Most cases improve over time with the right combination of movement, symptom management, education, and rehabilitation. Complete rest is rarely the answer.

I hear it every day 🤷🏽‍♂️

‘I can’t exercise because my back hurts’

‘I’ve always had a bad back, so I go careful now to protect it’

‘Last time I lifted something my back went so it’s best to avoid that sort of thing’

But trust me when I say that spines are not fragile and being over protective of it and afraid to use it is definitely going to compound the issue.

Spines are made to bend, twist and be used. Just like any other joint or muscle, it will adapt and remain healthy.

Earn the right to load your back by starting easy and building slowly, just like you would if you were training for a marathon. 🏃🏽‍♂️💪🏼
