IMPORTANT UPDATE: Long-term condition and medication monitoring recall changes at the practice. Commencing from June 2026.

Dear Patients,

Previously, many recalls were organised around patients’ birth months. While this worked well in some situations, it could sometimes lead to confusion or duplication of monitoring requests, particularly when tests, medications, hospital admissions, or new diagnoses changed throughout the year. We apologise for any frustration this may have caused.

We are now moving to a more flexible, needs-based system focused on when tests, reviews, or monitoring are actually clinically required.

What this means for you:
• You may receive invitations for tests or reviews at different times of the year rather than around your birthday month.
• Messages will now be task-focused, so you may receive more than one message on the same day or in close proximity. However, each message will clearly explain exactly what is required.
• Some tasks may not require an appointment and can be completed independently, such as submitting home blood pressure readings or collecting and returning urine sample pots.

Our new system is designed to use the most up-to-date clinical information in your record and will continually adapt based on your individual needs - including any new diagnoses, medication changes, or other monitoring requirements - to help ensure you receive the right care at the right time.
Where possible, we would really value your support in proactively completing requested tasks independently, as this helps improve efficiency and allows appointments to remain available for patients who need them most.

Please only book appointments when you have received an invitation from the practice asking you to do so.

These changes are designed to make our recall system safer, clearer, and more efficient for patients and staff alike.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month: raising awareness

April marks Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and we are encouraging everyone to share information about the disease, its symptoms, and the importance of early detection.

Bowel cancer is the 4th most common cancer in the UK, with over 42,000 people diagnosed each year. It is the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related deaths, but with early detection, the survival rate can be as high as 9 in 10. Therefore, it’s important to increase awareness about the signs, symptoms, and preventative measures that we can take.

Although the risk of bowel cancer increases with age, it can affect people of any age. However, making certain lifestyle choices can help reduce this risk:

Healthy Lifestyle: Maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fibre while avoiding excessive alcohol and processed meats can lower your risk of developing bowel cancer. Staying active and not smoking are also key factors in prevention.

Screening: When you receive a bowel cancer screening kit in the post, it's important to participate. Screening can help detect early signs of cancer before symptoms develop.

Bowel cancer may not always show clear symptoms in its early stages, which is why it's so important to be aware and vigilant. Common signs and symptoms include:

Persistent changes in bowel habits, such as diarrhoea, constipation, or a feeling of incomplete evacuation.

Blood in your stool or bleeding from your bottom.
Unexplained weight loss or fatigue.
Abdominal pain or discomfort, such as cramps or bloating.
A feeling of not being able to empty your bowels completely.
If you experience any of these symptoms, particularly if they last for three weeks or more, it’s important to contact your GP for advice and possible testing.

Remember, when it comes to bowel cancer, early action is crucial. Let's work together to raise awareness.
