🎊 Fantastic news for women suffering with Endometriosis! 💫💫💫
As part of a 3 year evidence gathering pilot period worldwide, two new non-invasive tests will soon be available on the NHS to test for endometriosis.
According the N.I.C.E. (National Institiute for Health and Care Excellence), there will soon be available two tests: the first, a saliva sample based test called Endotest. The second is called the Endosure test which involves sensors being placed on the abdomen, and send gentle electrical pulses through the gut.
At the moment, it can take up to 9 years for women to be diagnosed. So, once these tests are rolled out, they should help to detect endometriosis early on, so appropriate treatment decisions can be made early before the condition worsens and hopefully save patients years of pain, invasive surgery and potential reproductive difficulty.
POV
Whenever I see any female patient in my acupuncture clinic who has endometriosis, I hear the same story: they are dismissed, not heard, not taken seriously.
This needs to stop.
So, I'm also hoping that introducing these new tests will provide a golden opportunity for GP's to improve their listening skills and bedside manner as well as improving their understanding and training of menstrual cycle healthcare.
By recognising symptoms early on and referring them quickly will not only save the patient years of pain, it could improve their reproductive health earlier and save the NHS money and time too.
