We have an exciting opportunity for Receptionists to join our practice on a permanent basis.

📍 Locations: Kemnay & Torphins

🕒 Hours Available: 17 hours per week or 15 hours per week

📅 Start Date: Immediate start available

The successful applicants will be required to work across both our Kemnay and Torphins sites, therefore applicants must be able to travel to either location throughout the year and in all weather conditions.

We are looking for individuals who:

✅ Have excellent communication and customer service skills
✅ Have a professional and friendly telephone manner
✅ Are confident using computers and administrative systems
✅ Can work independently and as part of a committed team
✅ Have the flexibility to provide holiday cover when required

Previous experience in reception or administration is desirable, but not essential.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly team, develop new skills and play an important role in delivering excellent service to our patients and community.

📱 TEXT MESSAGES FROM THE PRACTICE

Over the next few weeks, we will be sending a text message to all patients who have an active mobile number registered on their record.

The message will ask you to opt in or opt out of receiving future text messages from the practice.

We want to reassure you that this is a legitimate message from the practice. There is no need to be concerned if you receive it.

If your mobile number has changed recently, please contact the practice as soon as possible so we can update your records.

👨‍👩‍👧 Younger patients becoming adults

We would also like to remind younger patients who are becoming adults that they may wish to update their contact number on their record to their own mobile number, rather than a parent or guardian’s number, if they would prefer to do so.

What might future text messages include?

Future messages from the practice may include:

• 📅 Appointment reminders, helping to reduce the number of appointments missed or wasted
• ℹ️ Important information or updates sent directly from the GP or reception team
• 📢 Other relevant practice communications

NHS Grampian launches new maternity helpline for urgent care

NHS Grampian is making it easier for pregnant women and families to seek advice if they have an urgent concern about their health or the health of their baby.

The new Maternity Triage Telephone Line is now available 24/7 by calling 0300 131 2112, making sure urgent health concerns are answered in the same way regardless of where you live in Grampian. Developed in response to feedback from local women and families, the new phoneline draws on established best practice from across the UK.

Katie Colville, Director of Midwifery for NHS Grampian explained: “The new Maternity Triage Telephone Line is being coordinated by staff at both Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin who are working together to make sure everyone gets consistent support and advice through this dedicated helpline.

“It’s a great step forward for our expert teams, and it will make all the difference to new parents or soon-to-be parents with one straightforward number to remember when they need it most.

“It doesn’t replace 999 in an emergency, and it’s not intended for routine queries people can discuss with their community midwives. But if you’re worried about things like reduced fetal movements, day or night, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”

The Birth in Grampian website also includes lots of helpful information to guide people through their pregnancy journey. From coping with crying to tips for breastfeeding, or what to expect when you’re having a baby, it’s a useful resource to tap into. Visit: www.birthingrampian.scot.nhs.uk

For non-urgent support, always contact your community midwife during pregnancy and until your care is passed to your health visitor. You can find their number on the information handed out when you are first booked in with your maternity team, via the Badgernet app on your phone, or for the health visitor in your red book. If they are unable to answer at the time of your call, please leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Why are the waiting times for smear appointments so long?

One reason is people not turning up for appointments. On Friday 5 patients didn’t attend for a pre booked smear appointment wasting 1 1/2 hours of nurses time.

We strongly believe that the responsibility to remember an appointment remains with the individual rather than adding extra work to our admin team.

However in an attempt to reduce wasted appointments that are increasing our waiting time for doctors and nurses, we will be introducing a text reminder system.
