💧 Hydration and Brain Health

As temperatures rise, it becomes even more important to stay well hydrated.

Water plays an essential role in helping the brain function effectively and supports concentration, attention, memory and mood. Even mild dehydration can sometimes leave us feeling tired, less focused, irritable or mentally sluggish.

For people living with dementia, maintaining good hydration is particularly important, as dehydration can sometimes contribute to increased confusion and reduced wellbeing.

Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially during hot weather, even if you do not feel thirsty.

Helpful Tip: On particularly hot days, try placing a cool, damp towel around the back of your neck. Turning and re-wetting the towel regularly can help cool the body and improve comfort during periods of high heat.

One of the biggest misconceptions about dementia is that when memory fades, or words are few, connection disappears. It doesn't.
This is a very well-known Validation Therapy video featuring Naomi Feil and Gladys Wilson, a woman living with advanced Alzheimer's disease. In the video, Naomi does not test memory, correct errors, or ask factual questions. Instead, she enters Gladys's emotional world and connects through familiar hymns and gentle human presence.

Naomi Feil, founder of Validation Therapy, shares a breakthrough moment of communication with Gladys Wilson, a woman who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 20...

Being confined to bed does not mean being confined to silence.

Some of our most meaningful conversations have taken place with people who were unable to leave their bed due to illness, frailty, or recovery.
A smile, a memory, a story, a song, a discussion, family photographs, or simply sharing thoughts about the day can all become valuable moments of connection.
The body may need rest. The mind still benefits from engagement.

Behind many people living with dementia is a husband, wife, daughter, son, or friend quietly trying to hold everything together.

If you are caring for someone you love, please remember this:
you do not have to carry the emotional weight alone.

Sometimes even one calm, meaningful hour of connection can change the atmosphere of an entire day.

At MindRelief365, we see every day how conversation, familiarity, humour, reminiscence, music, and gentle engagement can help bring moments of calm, comfort, and emotional connection — not only for the person living with dementia, but for their carer too.

You matter too. 🤍

The number of people living with young onset dementia is gradually increasing. This may be due in part to improved diagnosis, although it is widely believed that the condition remains underdiagnosed.

This film is truly enlightening. Watching it offers a clear understanding of what people need following a diagnosis of young onset dementia, and just how vital hope is in that moment.

People living with young onset dementia and their family members make their point about the condition.

Even with cognitive decline in the form of Alzheimer's, Vascular and Frontotemporal Dementia, the brain can continue to adapt.

This ability, known as neuroplasticity, means the brain can still engage, form connections, and take part when supported in the right way.

At MindRelief365, we use structured Online Cognitive Stimulation Therapy to support this through conversation, stimulation, and engagement.

No medication.
No travel.
Just consistent, evidence-based stimulation therapy.

Caring for someone with dementia is often constant. Day and night.

Much of it goes unseen.
Much of it goes unspoken.

But it matters - every single day.

If you know someone who is caring, reach out.
One small gesture can mean everything.
