Starting school is a big milestone, and if toilet independence is something you're working on at home, you're not alone.

The good news? There is still time to help your child build confidence using the toilet on their own before September. Toilet independence is about more than just using the toilet. It can also include recognising when they need to go, managing clothing, wiping and washing their hands.

Small, consistent steps can make a real difference, and every opportunity to practise helps. 🚽

Remember, every child develops at their own pace, including those with additional needs who may need more time or support.

Please visit Best Start in Life or speak to your health visitor for more trusted advice and practical tips on toilet training.

A solar eclipse is an incredible sight, but looking directly at the Sun can cause serious and permanent damage to your eyes, even when the Sun doesn’t appear especially bright. 🌞

This is set to be the most significant solar eclipse seen in British skies since the legendary total solar eclipse which happened on 11 August 1999 at 11:11am.

Please look after your eyes today. You only get one pair, and no eclipse is worth risking your eyesight for. 👀

Here are a few top tips to keep your eyes safe:

Never look directly at the Sun without proper, certified solar viewing protection. Ordinary sunglasses are sadly not enough. 😎

If you don’t have suitable eclipse glasses or other approved equipment, there are safe ways to enjoy the eclipse without looking directly at the Sun:

Indirect viewing. A simple pinhole projector made from paper or card can safely project an image of the Sun. Even a colander can create lots of little crescent-shaped projections! 📦

Never look at the Sun through your phone camera, binoculars, telescope or other optical device. These can concentrate sunlight and cause serious eye injury.📱

Prefer to watch from somewhere safe? You can enjoy the eclipse live via the Royal Observatory's YouTube livestream instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_lWDBTZdrY 🎥

Stay safe and enjoy the eclipse!✨

Learn how to protect your eyes whilst watching the partial solar eclipse!

We probably shouldn’t have to say this, but don’t look directly at the sun. Looking directly at the sun without the right protection can cause permanent damage to your eyesight – so you need to take care. Remember, your normal sunglasses may look great, but they won't cut it.

Across the NHS, missed appointments are estimated to cost millions of pounds every year, and each missed appointment is time that could have been spent caring for another patient. 🩺

So far in July, we have had 202 missed appointments, with further appointments still to take place this month.

We understand that life gets busy and plans change, but if you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer it to someone else.

You can cancel or reschedule your appointment easily by:
📞 Calling the surgery
📱 Using the NHS App

Your cancellation could be another patient's opportunity for care. 💙

Did you know that there are several local pharmacies offering a Needle & Syringe Programme (NSP)?💉

The service provides access to sterile needles, syringes and other injecting equipment to help reduce the spread of blood-borne viruses, including hepatitis B and C, along with other infections that can be caused by sharing equipment.

The NSP is about protecting health and reducing harm. It also offers friendly, confidential advice and can help connect people with other support services, including drug and alcohol treatment, if and when they're ready.

If you use injecting equipment, please don't share it, and always dispose of used needles safely. ☣️

You can access the service at the following local pharmacies:
📍 Peak Pharmacy, Bewdley Medical Centre - Bewdley
📍 Cohens Chemist, Hume Street Medical Centre - Kidderminster
📍 Cranstoun, Kidderminster Medical Centre - Kidderminster
📍 Stourport Pharmacy, Stourport Medical Centre - Stourport

🛜⚠️ Temporary Internet Outage at Cookley Medical Centre ⚠️🛜

We are currently experiencing an internet outage at Cookley Medical Centre. Our IT supplier is in contact with our Internet supplier, so we are unfortunately unable to say how long it will take to resolve.

At present, we are unable to access patient medical records, process card payments, and use some of our clinical systems.

Where it is safe and appropriate to do so, we are continuing to see patients and will do our best to minimise any disruption. However, some appointments and services may be delayed.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding. We will share a further update as soon as we have more information.
