🪄 Acupuncture point selection relies on…
• Analysis of relevant medical history
• Gait assessment (including ridden assessment if appropriate)
• Static evaluation
• Defined acupuncture points associated with specific conditions
• Trigger-point led point selection
• Experience of what has worked (and what hasn’t worked!) on any similar previous cases

💚 Each horse is unique and therefore deserves a unique assessment and approach to give the very best results from acupuncture

Absolutely zero relaxation here 👀

(and no, she’s not sedated by anything other than her own endorphins 🤌)

🫣 Here’s my controversial opinion… disorganised clinical kit makes me feel 🤢

👩‍⚕️ Knowing that my kit fully stocked and well organised is absolutely vital… I need to know I can easily access all the different types of needles I carry in order that I can tackle each problem area precisely and appropriately.

Here comes another busy week- and I cannot wait 🙌

Swipe for Dan’s story 💚

One of my older patients, Dan benefits hugely from his acupuncture sessions which keep him comfortable and doing what he loves despite his hock arthritis 🙌

❓The question I seem to ask the most?

“What’s the plan?” ⬇️⬇️⬇️

By knowing what your horse is doing over the next few weeks and months, I am able recommend a treatment protocol to best suit their needs 👩‍⚕️

🪄 I’m a firm believer that results don’t happen by accident 💪

➡️ The answer is C … and here’s why ⬇️

💚 Most horses I treat require attention in various parts of their body rather than just one area

👩‍⚕️ Each muscle and plane of fascia have different depths so I usually end up using a wide range of needle lengths for each individual, depending on exactly which structures I am targeting with acupuncture 🪄

💥 There’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to horses, so I am always equipped with a wide range of needles - which allows me to treat the specific needs of every horse as an individual 💚

😢 This evening I’ve read something online that has really touched a nerve- and I couldn’t just scroll on past (buckle up for my emotional outburst…)

👎 The image of a horse and its owner, with a “witty” joke about how expensive Vets bills are. What it doesn’t show is the direct effect these CONSTANT and unfair implications have on your Vet’s mental health

💰 It’s been said before, but contrary to popular belief, Vets are NOT in this profession for the money. In a previous role in general practice, I calculated I was getting paid significantly below minimum wage per hour (as well as having to sign out of the 40-hour maximum working week directive, enabling me to to “legally” work a crazy number of hours, always at no additional pay)

🧐 This isn’t unusual. It wasn’t my practice. It wasn’t the role I was in.

💚 It is a reflection of a profession which attracts hard-working, highly-empathetic individuals… who can’t take these negative comments lightly

💥 Equine Vets have recently been ranked as having the most dangerous job of all civilian professions, not forgetting a suic!de rate 4 x that of the general public

🙏 So please, if you see rubbish like this being shared online, please scroll on past and don’t engage with such inflammatory content… because if Vets keep being targeted like this, there won’t be any of us remaining in the profession to provide your horses with the Veterinary care they need and deserve 💔

💪 Like in humans, horses can develop excellent core strength and limb stability through minimally-concussive training

🧐 By considering each individual horse’s build, biomechanics and any apparent methods of compensation we can work towards a stronger, healthier frame to support their long-term health and performance

🐴 Mindful walk exercises can be ridden or in-hand and may include polework if appropriate

❗️I’d always recommend you have regular direct guidance from a trainer who is biomechanics-focused in order to ensure you are achieving your goals 💪

💥 With the unrelenting hard ground, it is more important than ever to reduce the concussive forces on our horses’ limbs
