β˜€οΈ July is UV Safety Month β˜€οΈ

Did you know? Sunburn can happen in the UK, even on cloudy days, and it increases your risk of skin cancer.

Help protect yourself and your family by following these simple sun safety tips:

πŸ•ΆοΈ Stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm when the sun is strongest.
πŸ‘• Cover up with suitable clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and UV-protective sunglasses.
🧴 Use SPF 30 or higher sunscreen with UVA protection, apply it generously, and reapply every 2 hours and after swimming or sweating.
πŸ‘Ά Take extra care with children and keep babies under 6 months out of direct sunlight.

Remember, sunscreen should be used alongside shade and protective clothing – not instead of them.

If you notice a new or changing mole or any unusual changes to your skin, please contact your GP.

Find out more about staying safe in the sun on the NHS website: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/seasonal-health/sunscreen-and-sun-safety/

🌞 Hot Weather Health Advice 🌞

We all enjoy the sunshine, but very hot weather can be dangerous – especially for older adults, young children and those with long-term health conditions.

Stay safe in the heat by:

πŸ’§ Drinking plenty of water (avoid alcohol and too much caffeine)
🧒 Staying in the shade, especially between 11am–3pm
πŸ‘• Wearing light clothing, a hat and sunscreen
🏠 Keeping your home cool – close curtains during the day, open windows at night
🚿 Cooling down with a shower or cool water on your skin
Look out for others – check on neighbours, family or anyone more vulnerable in hot weather.

⚠️ If you or someone else feels unwell with a high temperature, dizziness or sickness, it could be heat exhaustion or heatstroke – seek medical advice.
