Yesterday we were back at The Park Hotel in Kilmarnock for Gonging As One, a gong players gathering open to anyone who plays and wanted to come together with other like minded players to create something special.

We were joined by Sam from who travelled all the way from London to be with us. Sam shared his journey into mallet making followed by a demonstration of his mallets and gong accessories.Thanks Sam, it was great to have you there.

Then we all started playing together. I orchestrated the group so everyone knew when to come in, when to hold back etc, and together we created something really special.
20 gongs playing in unison but the room never felt overwhelming. It shouldn’t be about how loud you play, and yesterday was a perfect example of what skilled, conscious playing sounds like. Sound levels are something I take very seriously and volume levels stayed within a beautiful range throughout the day.

Every player had the chance to experience the sound from inside the gong circle - true surround sound! Such a treat as a player to get to experience something like this.

This day was about coming together, regardless of where anyone had trained, and connecting over a shared love of the gong. We had players travelling from Liverpool, Aberdeen, and from both the East and West costs of Scotland to be part of it.

Thank you to every single person who made the journey to be there and who made the day what it was. You are the reason events like these are worth doing.

Gonging As One will be back. This is now an annual event and I cannot wait to see what next year brings.

On my travels again.

Last month I was at a Paiste gong retreat in Wales hosted by Julian from ecymbals. Last weekend I attended the Mind Body Spirit Festival in London. Today, I’m heading back to Wales for another workshop by Mike Tamburo hosted by Bear and Shion.

Really happy to be heading back to Bear and Shion’s Golden Gong Gathering this August.

Last year I gave a talk and a demonstration on how I use singing bowls harmonically, working with intervals instead of single tones. The feedback from both sessions was great and I am very proud to be invited back to share again.

This year I will be giving a talk followed by a longer sound session using singing bowls, gongs with flumies, and another very special instrument.

The Gathering brings together some well-respected names from across the sound community, I’m very pleased to be among them.

Gong Practitioners Course now booking!

Six months. CMA Accredited. Based in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.

2 classes are available, both starting in September. One class is midweek, and the other is weekend.

The course includes 12 months of direct mentorship from day one, a course manual, access to Scotland’s largest teaching gong collection, and the B Love Method taught as part of this comprehensive course. ….and so much more!

I was going to wait until my website had been updated but the rebrand is taking much longer than expected, so I am launching the dates here.

Gong training has expanded quickly in Scotland but what hasn’t kept pace is the opportunity to actually play alongside others in a supportive environment.

Gonging As One on Sunday 7th June is a day for gong players to get together in a guided setting with no performance pressure and no pecking order. Just listening, responding, and finding out what you are capable of when you’re not doing it alone.

Sam from Epic Mallets is also joining us to talk about his mallets and demonstrate how the tools you use genuinely change how your gong sounds.

I’ve never felt the need to post about every instrument I use in my private sessions, but I thought I’d do something different share a short video of this one.

I have worked with the monochord in my personal practice, my classes, and in talks I have given about sound, for many years. However, this one is a bit different.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoy playing it.

Yin Yoga is a slow, meditative style of yoga where poses are held for longer periods (usually 2–5 minutes or more). It targets the deep connective tissues and and fascia - helping to improve flexibility, release tension, and encourage stillness and mindfulness.

A Sound Bath is a deeply relaxing experience where you are “bathed” in soothing sounds and vibrations from instruments like crystal singing bowls, antique himilayan singing bowls, gongs, and chimes and more. The sound waves can help calm and support the nervous system, reduce stress, and promote a meditative, restorative state.

What I share comes from a deeply personal place.

I’m a yoga teacher, sound practioner, ex-finance professional & a mum of two young kids living with ADHD (myself and my daughter), living a sober/AF life. I got into a daily yoga practice after becoming a mum in 2019 and struggling with undiagnosed ADHD, the mum life juggle struggle and using alcohol to self medicate. I made self-care a priority so I could be a best version of myself. These experiences have shaped the way I hold space - with compassion, honesty, and deep acceptance. My yoga practice naturally progressed to sound therapy, and I trained with the fabulous Pauline Spiers (Sound Therapy Scotland).

When gong practitioners are starting out, mallets can be a huge subject to try and navigate your way through. Most players have to spend a lot of money on trial and error until they find the right ones for them.

Yesterday one of the gong practitioners came back to the studio with her gong and we spent almost 3 hours going through my mallet collection (and some flumies too!) We start by sorting everything into a yes, no, maybe, then we start narrowing down by sound and weight, checking what actually gives the player something that warrants a place in their toolkit. It takes time, but at the end of the session the practitioner knows exactly what they are looking for.

This mallet selection service is a complementary part of my gong practitioners course. Dates for my next intake will be released later this week 🤍
