Debbie Thomson Therapy

Debbie Thomson Therapy Private Psychotherapist offering counselling and psychotherapy in Hull, East Yorkshire.

I’m private Transactional Analysis Integrative Psychotherapist, accredited with UKCP and MNCPS. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in mental health services within the NHS and voluntary sector for 18 years and during this time supported adults and young people with a range of mental health difficulties. More specifically, I spent 7 years working in specialist eating disorder services of

which I found incredibly interesting and rewarding. I also have a keen interest in working with people affected by Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and founded the first charitable organisation in Hull for those affected by OCD. In March 2023 I decided to take the plunge and give up my employed role as a charity manager and focus on my passion of supporting people in the therapy space. Since then, I have been busy building my private practice and spending quality time with my partner, family and fur babies! I support clients with a range of difficulties, including:

• Eating Disorders and disordered eating
• Obsessive compulsive disorder or behaviours
• body dysmorphia and body issues
• Stress
• Anxiety
• Low mood or depression
• Low self-esteem
• Suicidal thoughts or self-harm
• Trauma
• Grief
• Relationship difficulties
and much more…

I also work with couples using Imago Relationship techniques and offer therapy groups to trainee psychotherapeutic counsellors. I currently provide sessions either face-to-face from my office in Willerby or online, and offer an initial 30-minute free consultation. If you are curious about exploring if we can work together, or if you have any questions, get in touch to book a consultation 😊

*This blog discusses the subject of eating disorders. If you are struggling, or knows somebody that is, please seek support in your local area.

Monday 24th February marks the beginning of Eating Disorder’s Awareness Week. The theme for 2025 shines a light on the reality that anybody can be affected, the importance of sharing knowledge, spotting the signs, and encouraging early detection.

Subsequently, I’ve been reflecting on humans relationship with food and at what point it become unhealthy and have written a blog to express my thoughts.
