🌟 Therapist in the Spotlight: Kate Atkin 🌟

At Space2BHeard, we're proud to have a team of passionate therapists who bring compassion, expertise, and authenticity to their work. This week, we're shining the spotlight on Kate Atkin.

πŸ’š Kate is dedicated to creating a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where individuals can explore their experiences, gain insight, and work towards meaningful change. She believes that every person has their own unique story and inner strengths, and she works collaboratively with clients to help them navigate life's challenges at their own pace.

✨ Whether supporting people through anxiety, low mood, life transitions, relationship difficulties, or personal growth, Kate brings warmth, empathy, and genuine care to every session.

When asked what she values most about being a therapist, Kate shared:

"I feel privileged to walk alongside people as they discover their resilience, develop greater self-understanding, and move towards a life that feels more fulfilling and authentic."

We are delighted to have Kate as part of the Space2BHeard team and grateful for the positive difference she makes every day.

❀️ Thank you, Kate, for the dedication, compassion, and support you bring to our clients and community.

πŸƒ NEW SERVICE COMING SOON: Space2BHeard Walking for Wellbeing Hull & East Yorkshire πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ

We're delighted to announce the up and coming launch of Space2BHeard Walking for Wellbeing Hull and East Yorkshire, a new community wellbeing programme designed to support adults living with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, persistent pain, and other long-term health conditions.

Many people tell us that after making real progress through counselling and psychotherapy, maintaining physical activity can feel challenging. Fatigue, pain, flare-ups, reduced confidence, and concerns about overdoing things can all become barriers.

That's why we've created a different kind of walking group.

πŸ’š Free weekly wellbeing walks πŸ’š Gentle, graded activity πŸ’š Pacing and fatigue-aware approach πŸ’š Rest breaks and flexibility πŸ’š Peer support and connection πŸ’š Inclusive, welcoming environments

This isn't about fitness targets or keeping up with others. It's about moving at a pace that feels right for you, building confidence, improving wellbeing, and connecting with people who understand the realities of living with long-term health conditions.

✨ More than just a walk

Every session will provide opportunities for conversation, friendship, and mutual support, helping to reduce loneliness and improve confidence while encouraging manageable, sustainable activity.

The programme aims to support up to 80 adults across Hull and East Yorkshire in taking positive steps towards better physical and emotional wellbeing.

Watch this space for further information on locations, referral routes, and how to get involved.

✨ Therapist in the Spotlight: Laura Ali ✨

At Space2BHeard, we're proud to celebrate the incredible therapists who make a difference every day. This week, we're shining a light on Laura Ali, whose warmth, compassion, and dedication help people navigate their mental health journeys with confidence and understanding. πŸ’™

🌟 What is your speciality? "I’m trained in different modalities of therapy, including Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but I think my main speciality is caring and supporting people with warmth and compassion."

🌟 What motivates you? "Through my experience in mental health, I’ve seen how powerful understanding can be. When people better understand their mental health, they’re more able to manage it. Supporting that journey and seeing someone make positive changes in their life is what motivates me."

🌟 How do you relax? "Building Lego (with the kids), walking, swimming, or running (on my own), and seeing other parts of the world with my family and friends."

🌟 Something most people don't know about you? "Even though I don’t get to go as often as I’d like, I love being at the seaside! My favourite places to visit are Brighton, Robin Hood's Bay, and Mappleton. I have lots of wonderful memories there."

🌟 Last book read or podcast listened to? "Counselling for Toads: A Psychological Adventure. It's a great way to learn more about psychological wellbeing, but because it's set in The Wind in the Willows, it's not too heavy, and I find it really relatable."

πŸ’™ Laura's passion for helping people understand themselves and their mental health shines through in everything she does. We're grateful to have her as part of the Space2BHeard team.

🎡 The Power of Music for Wellbeing 🎡

Many of us think we'd feel better if we could just stop overthinking.

But what if overthinking isn't the real problem?

Often, our minds work overtime to protect us from something deeper: the fear of being judged, rejected, or not being enough.

When we replay conversations, overanalyse situations, or try to predict every outcome, we're often seeking emotional safety. Yet overthinking rarely makes us feel safer. More often, it keeps us stuck.

Shame can tell us:

πŸ’ If I make a mistake, I'm unworthy.
πŸ’ If I say the wrong thing, I'm unlovable.
πŸ’ If I'm not perfect, I'm not safe.

This can show up as:

πŸ”Ή Avoiding decisions for fear of getting them wrong.
πŸ”Ή Replaying conversations long after they've ended.
πŸ”Ή Doubting your own judgement.
πŸ”Ή Trying to control every detail.

🎢 This is where music can help.

Music doesn't just quiet the mind, it can help us connect with what's underneath the noise.

🎡 Rhythm can bring calm and focus.
🎡 Melody helps us connect with emotions rather than analyse them.
🎡 Sound and vibration can support nervous system regulation.
🎡 Music lets us feel without needing the perfect words.

Recently, our therapists spent time exploring a beautiful steel drum, even taking it outdoors into nature during lunch. What stood out was that there were no wrong notes, no pressure to perform, just an opportunity to be present, connect, explore, and enjoy.

Perhaps the goal isn't to think less.

Perhaps it's to feel safer being human.

To know that mistakes don't make us unworthy, and that authentic connection begins when we allow ourselves to be seen, just as we are.

πŸ’™ What's a song or piece of music that helps you quiet the noise and reconnect with yourself?
