💙 DID YOU KNOW TUESDAY?
WHY DOES NATIONAL INCLUSION WEEK EXIST?
National Inclusion Week was established by Inclusive Employers in 2013 as an annual UK campaign celebrating inclusion and encouraging organisations to take meaningful action.
It asks us to look beyond who is present and consider who can participate, contribute, speak openly and feel that they belong.
Representation and inclusion are not the same.
A person may be invited into a workplace, meeting, activity or community but still encounter barriers that prevent equal participation.
Those barriers may relate to:
• inaccessible environments
• inflexible processes
• assumptions about ability
• communication that excludes people
• fear of disclosing a health condition
• not being believed when symptoms are invisible
National Inclusion Week moves the conversation from simply welcoming people to examining whether our everyday practices genuinely include them.
