"It won't get more bearable. On the contrary, it will get more unbearable until it is over."
A friend's words about grief stayed with me and inspired this reflection on facing death, loving someone through their final chapter, and navigating the life that follows.
A deeply personal piece, shared with gratitude and remembrance.

if we're being honest about it, most of us have been on both sides. We've been the one who discovered the love was less than we thought. But we've also been the one who pulled away. We've had friends we were close to and then let go of when our lives moved on. We've had relationships where we were fully present for a while and then simply weren't, and we told ourselves the distance was mutual when it probably wasn't. And the people on the receiving end of that might not use the word sham. But they might recognise something of what Margot is describing. They believed, because we let them, and we didn't think much about what that belief was going to cost them once we'd moved on.

this kind of anger doesn't go anywhere. It's the kind that doesn't resolve into forgiveness or acceptance because the injury refreshes itself every time you trust someone new. You think you've dealt with it and had enough time, or enough therapy and then something small happens, someone cancels on you or changes their mind about something they'd promised, and there it is again, the old question of whether you're reading this right or whether you're being a fool again. Margot was nine when she found out. Most of us were older. I don't think the age makes much difference in the end.

Donald Winnicott wrote about what happens to children who discover that love depends on their performance. They build what he called a false self, a version of themselves designed to secure the attachment and to be whatever the other person seems to need. And the trouble is that this self works. It'...

Finding out if needs, experience, and goals align matters. As supervisors we all work a little differently, as supervisees, we are all different.
This means finding the best fit or right combination might feel like a never ending task - but it doesn't need to. Thinking and reflecting on ourselves and putting this with what we might already know we are looking for, can be an excellent place to start....
In this 5 minute read, let me offer you some guidance on how to make good use of your time (as well as theirs!) when you are looking for a supervisor.

15 years ago, nobody was talking about this, social media wasn't full of it and celebs weren't breaking their necks to tell you which product is AMAZING for their symptoms. I spent years not really understanding, and no doctor was listening to me and how much my mental and physical health was plummeting. I finally got HRT 3 years ago when I couldn't have been clearer I CANNOT go on like this in this body and mind one day longer, I just can't.
Now you have an image and slight insight into the length of struggle and numerous symptoms, whilst trying to chuffing navigate, you know, LIFE.
So if you are wondering why menopausal women MIGHT be a bit frustrated and perhaps sick of putting up with pointless dramas, you might have a little more of an idea now.
Stay with me ..

I think I might be nearly a grown up now. I've been working as a therapist since 2007 and it feels like I've been working on my website for nearly as long!
I am not a technical person, but set myself the quiet challenge of learning to do this myself - and this is my offering.
I'd be really grateful for some engagement, thoughts and feedback please.
You will see there are sections for supervision, therapy, fees and emergency help.
I have even been busy getting used to writing blogs - who knew brain farts were called blogs! So there are a number of those on there too.
Please, do have a look around , and thank you for reading, I appreciate it

Grief stole my Christmas

When grief stole my Christmas, and the lights from the tree.It also took awaythe light that shone in me. It stole the season's greetingswritten on every card.It dried up all my words, making communicating hard. It stole every bauble I had hungand left my branches bare. The thing is though, if I'm honest,I didn't really care....
