Final statement from Evergreen Funeral Services.

Now that the Legacy Funeral Directors court case has concluded, we would like to thank everyone involved in ensuring that justice has prevailed for the families affected.

Throughout this case, Evergreen Funeral Services has made the deliberate decision not to take part in media interviews or provide further public comment beyond our original statement. We believe our responsibility is to protect the dignity of the families involved. Their final memories of their loved ones are precious, and we will never do anything that could add to their distress or take away from those memories.

We also hope this case leads to a new and stronger regulation across the funeral profession, helping to restore public confidence and ensure families receive the care, dignity and protection they deserve.

To every family affected, our thoughts remain with you. We hope that, in time, you are able to remember your loved ones not for the events of this case, but for the lives they lived, the love they gave and the memories that will always remain yours.

Statement from Evergreen Funeral Services

In March 2024, information was brought to our attention that caused us immediate and profound concern. We were shocked and disgusted by what we had been told and knew we had a moral and professional obligation to act without delay.

Our priority was, and always will be, the dignity and respectful care of the deceased, together with protecting bereaved families.

We would like to give our sincere thanks to Humberside Police, the specialist teams involved in the investigation, HM Coroner's Service, and everyone who played a part in responding to these deeply distressing events. Their professionalism, compassion and unwavering commitment throughout an exceptionally difficult investigation was outstanding. They acted swiftly and treated every deceased person with the dignity and respect they deserved, while providing support to the many families affected.

Evergreen Funeral Services believes there is no place in our profession for anything less than the very highest standards of care. Now is a time we should embrace more regulation within the funeral industry to ensure funeral directors act within the same standards as ourselves!
