Giving young people the confidence to manage whatever challenges life throws them.

Before we see a teenager’s behaviour, we rarely see the emotions they’re working so hard to manage underneath.

“I Am 14 – The Inside Story of Emotional Regulation” gives a voice to what many young people struggle to put into words. It offers a glimpse into the thoughts, feelings and challenges that can lie behind the behaviour, helping parents, carers and educators respond with greater understanding and compassion.

If you’ve ever wondered what emotional regulation can feel like from a young person’s perspective, this is for you.

Endings matter.

Therapy isn’t just about the work we do together—it’s also about how we say goodbye.

Giving a young person their work beautifully wrapped to take home is a simple but meaningful way to acknowledge their courage, growth, and journey. It’s a way of saying, “You matter. Your story matters. What you’ve created here matters.” A thoughtful ending can become a lasting reminder of everything they’ve achieved.

‘I am power’ - how amazing is that for a young person to write !!

This week we’ve focussed on the ‘power’ of affirmations - the power of putting ‘I am’ in front of positive words and noticing how that feels.

We listened to songs that gave affirmation messages, noticed how we felt and used the lyrics as inspiration to decorate our own sun catching CD’s.

Watching young people connect with the words, begin to move, dance and relax was certainly powerful !

Do you have an affirmation playlist ?? What songs works
You have on it ??

As we head into the final half term before the summer holidays, Phoenix is continuing its work in schools, providing mental health support and psychoeducation to young people.

This time of year offers an important opportunity to help students recognise the support systems available to them within school and begin thinking about how they can look after themselves when those familiar resources aren’t as accessible during the summer break.

Throughout the year, Phoenix sessions focus on helping young people identify when they are starting to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or unsettled. This half term, we place an even greater emphasis on recognising the strengths, coping strategies, and resources they already have within themselves.

And how do we do that? Through games, of course!

Our activities are designed to challenge young people in a fun and engaging way, helping them practise adapting to change, experimenting with different approaches, slowing down, managing frustration, and persevering when things don’t go to plan.

Most importantly, we take time to reflect on these experiences together, highlighting the resilience, determination, and problem-solving skills they demonstrate. By making these strengths visible, we help young people recognise that they already have the tools they need to navigate challenges and build confidence as they move towards the summer holidays.
