So … we thought we’d try and do some serious social media posts with my mum and sister.

We’d thought we’d start off with a warm, friendly welcome demo to Angel Beauty.

It wouldn’t be the invitation that would make me feel old…

The envelope would sit unopened on the kitchen worktop for three days.

It wouldn’t be that I didn’t want to see everyone.

I would.

But I wouldn’t stop thinking…

“Will they recognise me?”

“I wonder what everyone else looks like now?”

“Have I aged more than they have?”

“Should I even go?”

For a split second I’d smile.

Then my heart would sink.

Because suddenly I wouldn’t be thinking about catching up with old friends…

I’d be wondering what they’d think when they saw me.

Here’s the strange thing…

The invitation wouldn’t change my face.

It would simply be shining a light on how I’d been feeling for a while.

Not because I wanted to look 20 again.

But because I’d want the outside to reflect how young I still feel inside.

Inside, I’m still the same person who walked out of those school gates all those years ago.

I’d just wish the mirror agreed.

That’s why I do what I do.

Not to erase every line.

Not to make me look like somebody else.

But to help you feel like you again.

To walk into moments like these smiling.

Not worrying who might recognise you.

Not avoiding the camera.

Not wondering if everyone else has aged better than you.

Just enjoying the evening.

Because ageing isn’t the problem.

Feeling like you’ve lost the person you used to be is.

And when someone leaves my clinic, my greatest hope isn’t that people notice their skin.

It’s that they recognise themselves again.
