Though the recommended room temperature for babies is 16 – 20°C, keeping your baby's room temperature in this range can be harder in summer or in a heatwave!
We want to remind you that in really hot weather, it's fine to dress your baby in just a nappy, or a short sleeve vest. Research shows that babies are safer being cooler than being too hot, as overheating increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
It might also help to:
- Open the bedroom door and a window, if it’s safe to do so, to allow the air to flow.
- Use a fan to cool the room, but don’t aim it directly towards the baby.
- Keep curtains closed in the daytime so the room doesn’t heat up as much.
- Use a thermometer to check the room is the right temperature – as it’s hard to guess.
But even after doing all of the above in this heat, it can be frustrating when the room is still hot and it's out of your control. So for peace of mind, continue following all of our safer sleep guidance 👉 https://bit.ly/4hXVWfq
